Curacao or Belize?

Has anyone been to both and can give their opinion on which is the better option to visit? Going for DH birthday; some place relaxing during the day; but lively at night...good food/drinks.

We're not into diving so that's not a necessity.

Thanks

Curacao or Belize?

I've been to both! Belize is your rugged, nature, rent a pontoon boat and go flying through the mangroves destination. There isn't really a public nightlife in Belize where you can walk the town and it is not considered a luxury destination.

Curacao, on the other hand, has a more European flair with a lot of history, very nice small beaches, restaurant, and the adventure travel if you want it. Both great places but these are completely different destinations and the expectation should be set. Based on the keywords of "relaxing" and "lively at night" I would say you're describing Curacao more than Belize, but I would also be curious why you've focused on these two particular destinations. Airfare will not be cheap to either place. Might Aruba be an option, or Jamaica? Are you looking for all-inclusive, hotel, some place you can rent a car and do your own thing, or do you want everything taken care of and not have to worry?

Re: Curacao or Belize?

Curacao hands down. Belize is absolutely beautiful but like PP said, it's more rugged and jungle-esq. There aren't really any very nice resorts and not much in the way of restaurants and nightlife. When I was in Belize we did a 4x4 jeep expedition with cave exploration. It was a great time.

Curacao is equally as beautiful but a little more built up with a nice town area for restaurants and bars. I know you said you're not divers, but Curacao is one of the best dive/snorkel locations in the Caribbean. There's more in terms of nice resorts as well.

I've only been to Curacao, but I loved it. We were in Willemstad--it is really cute & very Dutch. We were there on a cruise, so we went to the Hato caves in the morning & then had a leisurely lunch in a café & wandered the city in the afternoon.

Thank you for the feedback!!! My husband is the one that has selected these two places. I think liked the exotic off the beaten path sort of unexplored vibe of Belize; I prefer the more built up aspect of Cucacao. Neither really offers All Inclusive right? I'd personally prefer that...not have to worry about where to eat/drink. But we won't pick a place JUST to have AI. He was thinking Belize also figuring if we have to eat/drink off site the places would be more affordable and less touristy?

Curacao has an all-inclusive resort called the Sunscape. It's along the lines of a Dreams resort. I'm actually looking into it for a future trip myself. There's also the Marriott which is very nice with a great location. They offer an AI meal plan.

I would pick Belize. There is nightlife but it depends on what you mean by nightlife and which part of Belize you go to.

Re: Curacao or Belize?

I know nothing about Curacao but Belize is gorgeous and if you are into snorkeling or diving it's one of the best in the world. It's not exactly a party kind of place though. Good food and nice places in Ambergris Caye (San Pedro) but if you go away from the beach and into the jungle, it's VERY sleepy. Beautiful and the Mayan ruins are amazing, but sleepy.
