Do you need headphones for ipad on plane?
We will be traveling with the kids and plan on putting some tv shows on the ipad for them. I'm wondering if they will need headphones (which would then make it difficult for them to both watch the show together) for viewing? Can you just turn up the volume to a reasonable but not too loud level? I know planes are noisy and I've never tried to watch anything on an ipad while flying. I also don't want to disturb people around us but I'm thinking it probably wouldn't as long as we keep the volume down.

I make my kids shut the sound off if they bring electronics, unless they have headphones. I would not play a movie without headphones. Maybe you can get jack splitter thing so they can each have a pair.

yes, you need headphones.
It is airline policy. I have seen flight attendants make parents without headphones turn their devices off.

Yes headphones are a must! Radio Shack sells an adapter that Brandon picked up, the model number is 4201009 and it works great! You can plug in two sets of headphones into it and it's $14.99.

My kids have used the iPad without headphones when travelling. The plane was so noisy - nobody could really hear it.
ETA - I usually bring headphones with me though, especially on JetBlue in case they want to watch the tv.

my 17 month would wear them for a few minutes here and there but would also watch with no sound lol. As long as she was not screaming I was ok with a silent movie lol

As someone who flies frequently, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE either use headphones or have your children watch something with the volume turned OFF.
"Reasonable sound levels" mean different things to different people. While you may be used to sponge bob at a certain level and think it can't be heard because you're desensitized to it, not everyone is going to feel that way.

Jesus Christ, YES! No one wants to hear your kids cartoons or whatever. Very, very rude. Headphones are a must.
