Do we REALLY pursue this?

My daughter is truly a gifted dancer, she is lean and tall and her leg extenions are unreal, she points her toes, and can literally dance like sme of the back uo dancers on MTV, she is just really gifted, just started dance lessons, but al of her dance teachers approached me this weeknd and said I shoudl prusue this with her since she is gifted and I should start looking into elite dance schools in manhattan, schedule her for instruction in the city with top notch companies, etc, do you think it;s too much for a 7 year old, and would you do it? Just to add, she also LOVES it, it is her passion.

It can never hurt to try. You will never know. If it becomes too much for her you can always bring her back to her old school.

Good luckChat Icon

Re: Do we REALLY pursue this?

Thanks lades, I guess i just wanted ot make sure it didn't seem like too much, I thought it was ok, but it was always my dream to be a profesisonal dancer and I danced ti my easrly 20's, so I needed to make sure I wasn't getting blinded because this is my dream for her (and was my dream for me!!Chat Icon ) Thanks!! Dancers are a dime a dozen, but she has something special.

Re: Do we REALLY pursue this?

As long as she loves & wants to do it. I say go for it!!

My husbands niece is an amazing Irish dancer. Won many awards & has gone all over the world to dance. She absolutely loves it. Sinead (Johns niece) no longer likes to compete but, still loves to dance. My SIL does listen to her when she says no my SIL doesn't push. I think that makes it still enjoyable for Sinead. So, just listen to her & go with what she wants.

Best of Luck!Chat Icon

I would let her be your lead. Casually put it out there and see how she responds and if you did start it I would see very closely how she responds overall. To me I would just always want to make sure it was my child pursuing her dream and not me pushing her or living vicariously through her. I think if I didn't at least offer her the choice I might always wonder what if though. Hope that makes sense.

That is exactly my concern! Thanks so much, you expressed my concerns to a "T".

Re: Do we REALLY pursue this?

My cousin has been a Rockette for the past 5 years and has a very successful dance and choreography career. She grew up on Long Island and took all her lessons at studios out here until she was a teenager. Dont rule out an elite career just because you dont want to travel into NYC just yet. There are some amazing dance studios on the island as well.
Good Luck!

If SHE loves it and you are not pushing her then I would do it especially if it is something that you can afford because I am sure those schools can get pricey. I think it is rare to see children this day in age to see them with such passion considering how many distractions like t.v.
