Photographer Question

I love the pictures that the photographer I typically use takes. However.... he stinks at getting them back to me. If he says 1 week... it could be 3. I recommended him to others and have gotten him work but now I am getting annoyed and still waiting for pictures. I also booked him for a forest type shoot and holiday pictures and I am wondering if I should just cancel.

What is typical? I have sent reminders and it is taking a while.

BTW his pictures are good too!

I get newborns back to clients in 3 weeks. Everything else about 6. Most photogs i know are around this too. So 3 is good!! But he should be up front and tell you 3 if it will be 3. Or when you use him, either ask the no bs time frame or just expect 3 weeks as usual.

Ps. Reminders are annoying ;). Just ask him what the actual time frame is and give a few days after that. I say approx 3 and occasionally get an email at 2.5 weeks and its not due yet. Then I need to reply that its not due yet and that takes time I could have used editing.

Photographer Question

I've worked with quite a few photographers, and I've actually not suggested people who had good work because they didn't follow through with their time frame.

Last year we I emailed a photog in June to make sure the time would be ok, booked the pics in June, took them at the end of sept. I was told about 3 weeks, didn't get them for almost 6. I like getting my Xmas cards out the day after thanksgiving but I almost couldn't bc she took so long.

That being said, I've worked with awesome photogs who follow through/surpass their given time frame. If they haven't passed that time frame I wouldn't email them

Not sticking to timeframes is annoying, but 3 weeks doesn't sound bad in general. For newborn pics, I got them faster though and would have been dying over 3 weeks (they weren't complicated combining shots in photoshop or anything like that).
There is a photographer I really liked, but not sure if we'll use again because it took 2.5 months to get the files online. The funny part is, the editing wasn't great either. DD's features looked more pink with a pink background and more purple with a purple background. During the shoot as I tried to wipe up DD's nose or drool, the photographer said don't worry, I'll fix it in editing. But, I had to fix the runny nose pics and remove a small scratch on DD's face myself after I got the files. I just don't know why it took so long, except that they must have let themselves get really backed up.
