Need advice! It's begun... The phase of getting out of bed a couple of times every night!

This started a week ago. My DS who is almost 3 is giving me a very hard time at night going into bed and staying in his bed. He will say he has to go potty even though he went a very good amount before getting ready for bed.
He insists he has to go again! So, I take him. He does maybe a few drops and that's it. He'll sit there and then say he has to go poopy. It's starting to become an attention getter to prevent him from going to sleep I think.

I'll calmly explain that were all very tired and all going to bed. He understands, says okay and I'll bring him back to his bed. Tonight was the first night he actually climbed out of his bed after being asleep for an hour, and ran into our room. I asked him what's the matter. He again insists he has to go potty. So... As exhausted as I am.. Not knowing if he really does have to go or is just playing me.. I take him to the potty. He did go, but not a lot. I brought him back to bed and finally he's asleep.... Hoping he stays this way until morning.

I'll add that he is fully potty trained and I keep him in a nighttime pull up in case he goes in his sleep, but I can Clearly see that maybe he no longer needs the nighttime pull up?

How do you break this cycle?? I can't take doing this every night now!! I dread the nighttime routine now!
Edited to add: it crossed my mind that maybe he has a UTI? I asked him if his pee per hurts when he goes and he says no! However, I am not sure he's telling me the truth..? Maybe this warrants a trip to the dr to test his urine?
Any suggestions/advice??

EDITED TO UPDATE: The urine dipstick was clean. No sign of a UTI. The Dr. is still going to send the urine out for a culture just to be 100% sure. He believes it's more of a constipation issue thats making him feel like he has to urinate as well. This along with trying to manipulate me into staying away longer.. but, last night was really off he wall bizarre with being up all night long until 2:00am ... I am PRAYING he does not do this BS tonight and it ends NOW! Chat Icon I have him on Miralax once a day..

Re: Need advice! It's begun... The phase of getting out of bed a couple of times every night!

My 3 year old is doing something similar out of nowhere. Not with the bathroom but she is finding reasons to get out of her bed. Her latest is there's a spider in it. She gets up like 3 times a night and I feel like I have a newborn again with the broken sleep. She does go back to bed each time, but I have to get up, check the bed, tell her it's fine, cover her etc.

I know it's attention seeking and she's playing me etc. Your son is probably doing the same. I try to make the visit to her as quick as I can. I wish I had advice because I could use it too lol but just wanted you to know I'm in the same boat. I would just mention to the doctor to rule out UTI. I'm sure it is just a phase but I know it is exhausting! Good luck!

Thank you. It's very exhausting and you're right, it does feel like being in the newborn phase again with the constant up and down. Broken sleep.
Waiting for the UTI to be ruled out...

I used to take Ds to the bathroom buy would not wait with him. I'd tell him to call me when he was done. That way he wasn't getting the attention he was looking for.

We also used to tell him before bed- get it out now bc I'm not taking you once you're in your pjs

Good luck!

DS went through this phase. Now finally at 5 he's been good. Lots of bribery about how he needs to stay in his room and all the toys and the big boy bed is his. Big boys don't get out of bed or cry for mommy. I went on about having to take big boy toys away. sorry you're going through this.

My husband and I take him to the bathroom before bed, wash up, brush teeth and put his PJ's on. We take him into his bed. We also put on a nighttime pull up just in case..

As soon as one of us says good night and ready to place him in his bed, he tells us he needs to go potty again and that he HAS to go. We've told him he has to go by himself then.. that we just did this! I am about to lose it.

Thats the thing. He's not crying for me. Saying he wants me. He's insisting on the need to go potty. over and over. Nothing comes out. Last night was it's worst. I had three hours sleep. I am taking him to the DR. now. Thanks for your support.
