Does anyone have any recommendations of where in the city to stay (area, hotel, etc) and things to do? I'm looking to fly up for 4 days in the fall. Thanks!

We just got back from CAnada and I can say with confidence skip the botanical garden. It was a huge disappointment. I also cannot recommend the marriott residence inn because driving to it was a complete pia. You had to drive though the best western parking lot to get into the hotel. Personally we loved Ottawa and Toronto. Could not get out of Montreal fast enough.

we stayed at the intercontential Montreal. It was located near old town and downtown. Great place to stay and good location. However, we got it through a priceline bid for cheap. I would never be paying the "normal" price for that type of hotel, its pricey.

we ate a lot of great food on that trip primarily going off of a fodders guide I believe. it was a while ago. we basically hung out in the area and didn't really have much fo an agenda. Jazz fest was in town and we went to a few of the events.

We stayed at the Sheraton in Downtown. It was perfect area for us since everything was within walking distance. We also walked to Old Montreal it was a hike but a good one. Can't wait to go back.

There wasn't mush to do in Montreal but we did love atmosphere. I would definitely go to 'old montrea' or vieux montreal, as it's called locally. Almost total French speaking there and the atmosphere is wonderful with great dining and interesting streets to tour.
