Bug Spray - Conflicting Dr's Advice

Last week my 14 month old DD woke up with a ton of bug bites. I was so mad b/c I had ordered bug spray but it hadn't arrived yet when she got bit. I was at the dr today and he told me that it doesn't matter what bug spray I would use, b/c its all too toxic for her.

Two week ago when I was at the dr when DD was sick I had asked a different dr in the practice about bug spray and she said I could use the Avon bug guard which is what I ended up ordering. (I got the one w/o picardin).

So now I'm confused. Use it? OR not? DD is at the park with the nanny at least 1x a day and I'm pretty sure that's where she is getting bit.

Any advice on if I should use it? Or how to handle the different dr opinions?

TIA!

I have always used it. To add to the different doctor opinions, I'll add my story. I had purchased an all natural bug spray and brought it to show the ped. He told me to use regular bug spray because it works much better. He said the risk of getting ill from bug bites far outweighs the risk of injury from deet and chemicals. I still use the natural one but I'll use Off if that's what is available.

I generally just use a blend of essential oils mixed with water in a spray bottle. It works great!!

I wouldn't feel comfty spraying regular bug spray directly on my kid skin.

Is the Avon one just Avon skin so soft in a spray bottle? I've heard of people using that as a bug repellent too. GL!!

Same here. Anything else won't work and my dd is a magnet for mosquitoes. She swells and is unrecognizable.
I try to avoid being out after dusk with them all together. I'm terrified of west Nile.

I use the Avon Skin so soft without picardin in it on my kids and they never get bit when wearing it. I use it myself as well and have never had a problem.

Re: Bug Spray - Conflicting Dr's Advice

My Ped told me to spray their clothes rather than their skin -
but the only thing that will really actually work is that deet stuff .......

they don't relaly bother my little one - but my older son gets eaten alive and they blow up and itch and get infected - so in his case, the deet although not the best thing, chemical wise - it's the lesser of two evils.

My kids are 3.5 and 22 months. I've been using it since they were all about 6 months old.

Does the skin so soft really work? and it's just the oil? not anything that necessarily says bug deterrent
on it (just want to make sure i look for the right one)

California Baby is all natural, all essential oils. Can't see how it can be harmful?

I got the avon bug guard without picardin but I haven't tried it yet. I bought it on amazon and it has great reviews. I'm not sure how different it is from the regular skin so soft.

Yes! I take a bottle and add about 5oz of water and about 20 drops of each of the followind oils: Purification, geranium, lavender, eucalyptus and peppermint. I use Young Living brand..over the years I've found them to work the best. I spray it on my kiddos and wherever they are playing..I know a few people who use it on their dogs too.

I have woman that comes into my office and does free workshops..I use the oils pretty much for everything. She's great..FM if you want more info.
