my doctor just called to let me know that my bloodwork showed that i'm a carrier of cystic fibrosis. my husband now has to get bloodwork done.
has anyone had any experience with this?
i'm so upset. i just feel like every week one of these tests comes back with something new for us to worry about

Re: cystic fibrosis
I found out I was a carrier for CF after the routine first trimester bloodwork. I know how nerve wracking waiting for your DH's test results is! Try to look at it this way- there's a 50% chance your DH won't be a carrier. And even if he is there is only a 25% chance that your baby will have CF. Good luck!

The 25% chance of the baby getting it if both parents are a carrier I agree with. The chance of your DH being a carrier is much less than 50% though! It's more like 1 in 30 so more than likely everything will be fine.

Yes. I found out I was a carrier after my initial blood work. My DH was tested and his tests came back as NOT a carrier. When I went to the genetic counselor, they said even though DH didn't come up as a carrier, there is a possibility he COULD still be a carrier because there are so many different CF genes and the test they do at the lab doesn't test for every single one. There are more extensive tests he could've had done but we chose not to do them.
DD's newborn screening blood test came back completely normal for everything
I know it's nerve-wracking but try not to stress it. Your DH probably isn't a carrier

It was a blood test for my DH, and results took a week or so to come back. This was 2+ years ago (my first pregnancy), maybe there are other options like a cheek swab now, idk.

Re: cystic fibrosis
I am also a carrier. Thankfully, my husband is not. My sister and her husband were both carriers however and it caused a lot of stress for them during her pregnancy. By the grace of god the baby is totally fine and not even a carrier. Good luck, chances of you both being carriers is low.

Yep, just simple blood work. Results took less than a week.

I'm a carrier. I was freaking out waiting for Dh's results to come back and thankfully, they were negative. I think it was just a simple blood test----if it was anything more than that, he'd still be crying over it.

Many offices now do the cheek swab. My DH was tested with the cheek swab. So no bloodwork is correct.

My husband is jealous lol. He HATES needles/getting blood drawn. He didn't even want to get tested but did it because I really wanted him to.
