Would you send your DC
to a newly opened daycare center? There is a new center being opened locally to our house - the franchise has a good reputation, the pricing is competitive with the other really good centers by us as well. We would be able to preregister (which would save us $$ on our monthly tuition) and we would be able to tour the center and meet the staff prior to the opening day, at which point we would be able to request a full refund of the registration fee. I'm on the fence, but the other centers of this company are very good, have a good reputation. I inquired about the requirements they have for their teachers, it's the same as the other more strict centers we've seen so far.... I'm torn. On the one hand, if the teachers all have experience and are good at what they do, it wouldn't be an issue, but on the other hand, we have no one that is currently there that we can ask about it.... Part of me thinks that if the pre-registration fee is fully refundable if we aren't happy/impressed, then why not?

Personally? No, I wouldn't.
I wouldn't want them ironing out all of the kinks with my kids there. I just wouldn't feel comfortable.

yes. and i did. the center was open for less than a week. Best decision ever. He was only one of 2 infants and got so much personal time.

We sent my then 18 month old to a newly opened center in Mineola. Worked out for us. He just graduated from the Pre-k program. Not sure how I would have felt with an infant though.

Just food for thought. Why not pre-reg and put your name on other waiting lists. And if you don't like the teachers then cancel.
But also know that staff at daycares change all the time. Its not a great paying job and many are there while in school for teaching etc. We have seen so many great teachers leave. So I would never make a decision based solely on a teacher.

I would b/c it sounds like it's a big center with a good reputation. I wouldn't if it was an in-home daycare, though.
Any daycare center is a gamble that you'll like it. You have to remember that you can always pull your child out. Nothing is permanent. Is pulling your child out convenient? Certainly not, but it's better than leaving your child somewhere unsafe.

That's a good point. I also figure that I could do the preregistration to ensure that we get the discounted rate for the first year and then I could always cancel and get the refund back if we don't like it once it opens and we tour & meet everyone.

This is what I was thinking - we're already on wait lists & have paid the registration fee's for other centers, so I don't think it would be a bad idea.

Re: Would you send your DC
I would - if its a franchise that has a good reputation - no reason to believe that the new location wouldn't rise to those standards

Re: Would you send your DC
The way I figure....even the best of places had an "opening day"....so yes, I would....
However, we are in the process of franchising a daycare facility so maybe i'm bias!!

This - they also shuffle them around between rooms.
Since it's a well known chain, I would put a deposit at the new center. One thing you can do to help ease your mind is to visit a few other centers in the chain to make sure there is consistency in what you are hearing.
