I have never taken DS to a kiddie place. We just go to the same place DH gets his done. The kiddie places are more money many times and as long as your place is good with kids then it will be fine. If DD is going to have an issue with getting her hair cut it with it no matter where you go.

No you don't need to go, but I took mine. They give her a balloon, a car to sit in, let her watch a movie and other toys to distract her to look down or look up, they have kid sized sinks with raised seats, chalk wall bathrooms and its just an overall kid friendly place.

Her first hair cut they took a before and after photo, gave us a lock of her hair in a zippy and a certificate for her first haircut! I thought it was cool!

and happy after with a balloon

My gosh she was a chunky monkey!

Depends on how you think she'd react. If you think she would be fine at a regular salon, I say go for it.

I've taken my DS to both a barber and a kiddie place and would pay the extra money to go to the kiddie place again. He screamed at the barber and the barber obviously wasn't used to it bc he had no idea how to react. The kid place (he's gone 3 times now) he sits and watches tv and is perfectly content while they cut his hair.

Re: kids haircuts

that's the thing i am not sure how she will react ...i think that going to a big girl place with me and Nonna (who also wants to get a hair cut) would be a fun thing for her to do.

I think it definitely depends on the kid. I hate spending the extra money but my DS has a hard time with haircuts even at the kiddie place with all of the distractions. I wouldn't even attempt to take him to a regular barber yet, I just know it would be a disaster. If you think she will like the regular salon, then I would give it a try.

We took DS to the salon I go to for my hair. He sucked on a lollipop and the woman was super fast. DS was great. I didn't see the need to pay extra for him to sit in a fancy car or anything. Best part was since I know the salon, she didn't charge me for his first haircut!

ITA. DS is a squirmer so we take him to the kiddie places so he is distracted by turning the wheel in that little car he sits in, and they also have toys for them to play with.

A friend did DS' first haircut. We took him to a barber for the second. Now DH & I just buzz his head. I might consider a kiddie salon once a year or so just to fix whatever we keep missing! He does not do well with haircuts....
