Baltimore Harbor (Baltimore, MD) anyone ever been there?

We're thinking of going there for a weekend and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for places to go and also hotels to stay at...oh yeah and restaurants?

Thanks!

I was there a few years ago - we went to the aquarium and walked around the harbor and took a water taxi.
We ate at Phillips. It's a seafood restaurant and it was very good.

My sister recently visited Baltimore. She said there are good areas (the harbor) and bad ones, and that the bad ones are REALLY bad.

I went to the Inner Harbor, Baltimore MD about 4 years ago (with an ex, but we won't go there Chat Icon) and I think I did the same exact things Lisa did.. we walked around the harbor (which is lovely) took a water taxi, visited the aquarium which is really nice.. and we ate at Phillips too (I do not like seafood but eveyrthing was yummy there)

Oh and we are huge baseball fans so at the time, I'd gotten tickets to see the Yankees play the ORioles at Camden Yards and it was awesome. Camden Yards in general is just a gorgeous ballpark, and worth a walk around just to see the area (even if you hate baseball)

Its a perfect weekend getaway

ETA: I cannot remember for the life of me the name of the hotel we stayed at, I do remember I was not that impressed with it so I would not recommend anyway BUT I would suggest the hotels closest to the harbor /camden yards area .. as Rebecca said, there are some pretty nasty areas in Baltimore so try to stay as close to the Inner Harbor as possible

We would want to be in the harbor area only (I've heard the bad areas are baaaad too). We'd stay at a hotel on the harbor (hoprfully) too.

My cousin and I got lost in the BAAAAAAD area on the way to the Harbor. Let's just say it was two girls in a civic coop, windows down blasting billy joel. We were stuck at a light and watching a midget sell drugs to a crackwhore in front of our car. Chat Icon Chat Icon We made a U-turn immediately and got out of there. Very scary! I think the neighborhood was even called Brooklyn. Chat Icon
We stayed up north near Harve de Grace, which is about 30-40 minutes away from the harbor. I wouldn't recommend it.

The Inner Harbor is cool. You can go to the aquarium and take a ride in the Harbor. Someone else mentioned Phillips, they have good seafood.

Outside of the Inner Harbor there really isn't much to do. You can take a drive to DC, it's about 30-45 min away.

the science center is cool too. When we were there they had an exhibit on video games - all the old ones were there - pong, pac man, etc ...

DH and Scotty just went there. They stayed at the Sheraton Inner Harbor and went to an Orioles/Yankees game too (which actually got rained outChat Icon ). They loved the aquarium and said there was so much to do around the harbor.

DH said it was nice and it was in a really great location. They actually walked to Camden Yards. If you were looking to go to a game, there is a package, I think it's called the Orioles package (fittingChat Icon ) and it was $309 for the room and really great seats to the game.

Re: Baltimore Harbor (Baltimore, MD) anyone ever been there?

About 4 years ago I spent the weekend at the inner harbor with an ex - we stayed at the Sheraton for a ridiculous price, and the room STUNK. It was tiny, dirty and there were cigarrette burns all over the bedspread. The pool was SO not a pool - a tiny triangle of water. I asked to be moved, but the whole hotel was booked so they couldn't. I came home and wrote a letter of complaint and never received a response... but, that was four years ago, so hopefully things have changed!

I went to Inner Harbor a few years ago. I didn't stay in the Harbor; I stayed in walking distance at the Omni. It was fine - not the Four Seasons but not a Howard Johnson's either.

Re: Baltimore Harbor (Baltimore, MD) anyone ever been there?

There is TONS to do in the Inner Harbor. Whats funny is we literally JUST got back from there with my parents (we went to Cheesecake Factory for a late lunch).

The aquarium is great - you HAVE to see the Dolphin Show (although it may still be closed because one of the dolphins recently had a baby).

Camden Yards it's a gorgeous ballpark. Check and see if there are any games that weekend.

Power Plant Live is an area of bars/restaurants where you pay one price and can go in and out of the different establishments. They have a dueling piano bar (Howl at the Moon), as well as an 80's club (Have a Nice Day Cafe).

There are lots of restaurants and shopping in that area - it's pretty touristy.

I also recommend going down to Little Italy. We go to Amici's for dinner and Vaccaro's for pastries.

Have fun and don't worry so much about "the bad areas" - there are bad areas in every city. Just stay away from "The Block".
