What else can I do?

I have been teaching for 13 years. I had taught at a private school for 8 years and then was a coordinator for 3 years before moving to NYC DOE for the last two years. I have primarily taught children with autism and developmental disabilities. I am so miserable this year and really do not want to go back. I am supposed to teach summer school starting Tuesday and I am sick over the fact of going. What other things could I do? I have lost my love of teaching. I have a lot of experience with technology (ie Smartboard and iPads, etc). I thing I need a change.

What about a tech teacher ... I don't think you need a special license ... I believe it said that on open market if I'm not mistaken

You could look into giving EI services. It's something I keep in the back of my mind for when I'm ready to go back to work as an alternative to just going into a district.

I would look into being maybe an MSC at am agency or maybe an EI teacher. I went to school for teaching and taught for one year. I hated it. I now coordinate medicaid services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Pays a lot less but couldn't be happier :)

I think working for an EI agency is a great idea. My son has autism and I had to wait to start services for a while, waiting for an ABA therapy team leader to become available, since it seems there were so few.

I was also going to suggest EI or ABA. My old co-worker started ABA after she had children and now she basically makes her own schedule and loves it. She said the only downfall is that there is no insurance so she's paying a fortune for it.
