air fare- book now or wait?
Need advice from frequent flyers- I am looking at a flight with dates at the end of July, when I looked for these certain dates a month ago the rate was $50 less than it is now (at the time, I didn't book because I wasn't quite sure if we were definitely on board to go). Do you think I should book now or wait? Are there such things as last minute deals? I know the airline frequently has these promotion emails but not sure if I wait, if fares will go up even more. TIA!

I would book. If the fare goes down for the exact flight most airlines will do a price adjustment (most will give airline credit though).

Advance purchase is always cheaper. The closer you get to the dates, the higher the fare. This is how airlines do it: There are a certain number of spots on an airplane. Regardless of where you're sitting, there are limited seats at a certain fare. When those seats sell out, you go to the next higher fare, etc. etc. Sometimes, the lower fares are available at other times during the day or a day before/after. That's why it's better talking to a travel agent than booking online. The TA can see inventory or combinations that you can't.
Good Luck!

Thanks all. Just deciding on what to do. We could drive but its 11-12 hours... and with an almost 2 year old, I am not sure how that will play out!

With what is going on in Iraq fuel prices will only go up. As fuel prices go up, airfare goes up.

Book! We're flying mid July the flights are also about $40-50 more than last month and only going up! I'm mad I didn't book even sooner than I did for the lowest price

Thanks all. I ended up booking. Expensive but I don't think I could deal with my DS for 12 hours in a car!

I would book. If the price of the flight goes down, they'll either refund you or give you a credit towards your next flight.

Are you going to the Carolinas? It sounds like it- those fares are always a fortune. I don't know why, but it's cheaper to fly further

Yup- Myrtle Beach. Forced to fly spirit... the base fare itself is not too bad but its everything else that adds up..... and they are now charging $32 each way for checked baggage (since you have to pay to carry on) and, $11 per person, per way, to select your seats... insane.
