Organic Hair Color
Hi - has anyone tried or heard anything about organic hair color as an alternative while pregnant?
I normally highlight my hair and when I found out I was pregnant I was also due for my color, so it is becoming quite unruly.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or input!

My understanding is that after the 1st trimester, it's OK to dye your hair, and I hope so because my greys are REALLY bad... my stylist is my brother's soon to be MIL, her other daughter is preggo too, so I know she'll guide me in the right direction.

Its ok to dye your hair at any point.
I had 2 Drs during my PG and both had zero issue with it.
But if all you are getting is highlights then aI def would not worry as it never touches your skin.

That's what I thought, I just have heard some doc's that recommend waiting until after the 1st trimester. Thank goodness because these greys are killing me - I'm 30 and have more grey hairs than my 81 year old grandmother!

It's funny because my DR told me I can eat sushi and hot dogs, but he wants me to wait until I am at least 24 weeks before coloring my hair.

I highlighted all throughout my pregnancy. My doctor did not have a problem with it, especially highlighting because it doesn't touch your scalp.

I asked my MFM this last pregnancy and this one as well. Her answer was that the fumes from the Ammonia are more harmful than the dye itself. After 12 weeks it's ok. I chose a hair color called color gems. I got it at the beauty supply store. No ammonia, low peroxide. I have to do it more often, but it's better than standard ammonia based coloring IMO. Ask your ob

My dr said the exact same thing. No hair dye or highlights until 24 weeks. I too could eat hot dogs, sushi, and cold cuts.

Re: Organic Hair Color
My doctor said I had to wait until 14 weeks and then it had to be all natural etc. I ordered a dye online called herbatint and actually went last night to get it dyed. I am currently 18 1/2 weeks. It worked great, there was absolutely no smell and my hair is so silky soft bc it is made with aloe vera. A friend that used it while doing chemo recommended it to me. I would highly recommend it. It covered my gray too, which was really bad since I hadn't had my hair dyed for over twenty weeks!
