What do you feed your one year old?
I'm seriously struggling with this. My DD is the most stubborn one year old I've ever encountered. She has always been a great eater and ate pretty much whatever we gave her, in puree form. We've been working on table foods for what seems like forever and she's just not taking to them like I feel she should. I want to give her healthy snacks/meals, but she just flat out refuses to eat them. She won't really drink milk either, so that's another issue. Right now she will eat: oatmeal made with whole milk w/fruit pouch mixed in, yogurt with a fruit/veggie pouch mixed in, crackers, Gerber crunchies, animal crackers, muffins, puffs, cheese, sometimes pastina, rarely eggs, sometimes a bit of a waffle or pancake, and that's about it. We always try to give her new foods, but she will look at it, turn her head away and scream. I have no idea what to do. She will not eat any steamed vegetables or fruits. I've tried giving pieces of meat/chicken, but she either won't eat it or will spit it out. If she spits something out, then she won't eat anything else or will scream and carry on until we give her a cracker or some crunchies. I want her to eat, and not starve her, but she is a lot of attitude in a little body! Is this normal? Any suggestions?

Re: What do you feed your one year old?
DS went from eating EVERYTHING we would put in front of him by 10.5 months, I mean, stuffed peppers, tacos, meatballs, chicken francese, ANYTHING to wanting no meat or veggies!!!!
Then could be a coincidence but after he got the stomach virus he refused and spit out all meats and veggies and it got so hard. He would still eat, eggs, pancakes, waffles, frenchtoast, pasta, pizza, cheese and some fruit. I was so upset my good eater vanished! I kept offering him everything we ate (never pushing it, just offering it) and dinner got so hard, I resorted to stage 2 purees many nights to ensure he got his protein and veggies.
He is 15.5 months now and is actually starting to eat some meat again and some veggies when they are mixed in stuff and really small. I never thought this would happen, but it is getting better!
Just keep offering and hopefully she will start liking stuff.

Re: What do you feed your one year old?
DS used to eat everything we gave him. He'd eat a can of veggies for a meal, it was great. Then he turned a year and somehow knew that a veggie is a "veggie" and he spits them all out. No matter what we do. We just keep trying, and I know eventually his preferences will change again, but I don't think there's much he can do.
Since he will still eat veggies in puree form, we give him a pouch once in a while to get the veggies in.
I don't think it's too much cause for concern as long as your baby is eating solids in general.

My DD was the worst eater at that age. She's 2, and she's still a challenge, but she is getting better. I used to give her a lot of chicken nuggets and meatballs. It seems she would really only eat them. Then, started making her eggs, pb&j, and grilled cheese, etc. To get veggies/fruit in her, we bought a Nutribullet and made her juices, which we still give her and she LOVES.

Re: What do you feed your one year old?
its tough
I have one AWESOME eater (DD who is 16m) and one miserable eater, DS who is 4.
DD gets what we eat. DS has his own set meals. Every single night, dinner for him is strawberries, chicken, cheese or a yogurt smoothie. That's as balanced as his diet gets.
No real advice just we found that getting him to eat SOMETHING was better than the battle.
ETA - do you let her feed herself? Sometimes that helps!!

Re: What do you feed your one year old?
Thank you for the replies! At least I know I'm not the only one with a stubborn one year old. I always let her feed herself, especially with the table foods. I always put a variety of different items and let her choose what to eat. If I'm feeding her a pouch, I will feed her then, but generally she feeds herself. I never force food or make it a miserable experience for her, but man if she doesn't want it, it's not going in! This kid won't even eat Cheerios. Won't even touch them. Seriously - what kid doesn't eat Cheerios?
Any ideas of other foods to at least try? I feel like I'm out of ideas on what to feed her.

haha.... DS has decided he is not into cheerios anymore if that makes you feel any better. I thought that was strange too!
Also.... I noticed giving him a fork helps. He tries to use it and is getting better everyday, but even if I put the food on it for him when he can't, he likes eating off a fork!

Giving her fresh juice that you make at home or a smoothie is a good to get nutrients into her. How would she react to that ?

I'm not sure, but I'm certainly willing to give it a try! She likes drinking out of our cups or a draw, so that could work.

I've seen lots of kids eat tons of stuff they wouldn't normally eat when it is in drink form. Google the detoxinista cherry chocolate shake. It's got tons of good stuff in it, but it is kid friendly. You might want to get a nutribullet to make it really smooth. ETA: her site ( the detoxinista ) has tons of other yummy smoothie recipes.
