El Conquistador in Puerto Rico
Has anyone been or looked into El Conquistador in Puerto Rico?
I have never heard of this resort but it looks amazing and prices are really good. Granted it sounds like they nickel and dime you once you get to the resort as they charge you for everything a la carte.

Re: El Conquistador in Puerto Rico
DH and I stayed there about 5 years ago. It was absolutely beautiful, and we'd love to go back. The restaurants are expensive, and they're really your only option as the resort is secluded. Actually the last day we were there, we did the bioluminescent bay tour, and where you meet your group there are street vendors selling food for very cheap! Also, after we got there we noticed people checking in had stopped at Walmart on the way there to stock up on snacks, cereal, water, etc- so there are ways to save if you know about it beforehand. We went pre-kids so we didn't utilize the water park, but people seemed to be loving it. You take a ferry over to their private beach. It's beautiful, and the water is nice and calm.

I am considering staying in San Juan for a night first and renting a car. We can stay in Old San Juan for free using Starwood points.
Stocking up on groceries sounds like a good idea.
When we went to Atlantis, we got groceries delivered. We still spent like $300-400 per day on food but it was nice not to feel the sting of $7 water or whatever it would have cost.

I've been there twice for business. I found having to take a boat to the beach annoying after the first or second day. Also, because the resort is set into the side of a mountain you have to take a funicular to get to all the different levels of the resort. Your kids might find it cool though.

The boys would actually love to ride the tram to get to the different levels of the resort and I would like taking a boat the beach. I also like the idea of a boat the beach. You may have sold me on this resort.

If you like the idea of a bait to the beach, I believe it's the Rennaisance in Ariba that has boats leaving right out of their lobby. I hear it's pretty cool. I'm sure my boys would get a kick out of it.
