With DS (my first) i had a similar experience, I think I pumped for 8 weeks.

DD #1 (my second child) ebf for 18 months, and she never took a bottle. DD#2 is now 6 months and is following in her sisters foot steps. I apparently either give the bottle too early, that they wont nurse, or too late and then they wont take a bottle.

If you want to BF, try it! It doesnt hurt, and go into it saying I want to do 4 weeks, then see how u guys are doing at 4 weeks and either decide formula is better for you guys, or give yourself a new BF goal. I didnt want to regret not trying with my second, and for some reason it was just so easy the second time around (probably because i didnt put pressure on myself), and for me, nursing is just easier, no cleaning bottles, no making formula etc., and that was a god send with other kids running around and needing attention.

Obviously the baby will be fine no matter which route you choose. If you think you'd regret NOT trying, then you should attempt BFing. If it isn't an issue for you, don't.

FWIW, BFing my daughters were completely different experiences. It was about 8 bagillion times easier to get BFing going the second time around. New baby, new world.

i was unsuccessful with my first & made the decision to go straight to formula with my second. best decision i ever made. my first son couldnt latch so i pumped for 2 months. the whole experience stressed me out & i didnt want to make myself feel like that again second time around

I tried so hard to BF DS1, it went on for months- pumping, BFing, FF supplementing, LC's. I finally gave up after like six months of torture. With #2, I gave it another go. He was EBF for several weeks, but after he failed to gain properly, I gave it up much sooner. I never looked back. Do what you think is right for you. Your happiness means more than BFing or not. And my son is smarter and healthier than anything, even though he got formula from a few days old.

My sister had a hard time BF her 1st; just couldn't get the baby to latch; and her supply was low. With her 2nd she wanted to give it another try and she was able to BF for about 7 months. I think for her she knew she really wanted to try round 2 and she went to see a LC and that really helped her get past the latch issue and she had no problems with supply (2nd time).

I wasn't unsuccessful because I was able to BF DC1. However, I had a REALLY hard time in the beginning and lasted just 7 months, when my goal was a year. So I was able to do it, but it wasn't the experience I thought it would be.

I learned from that experience and used that for DC2 and 3.

If you want to BF DC2, you totally can. But you have to WANT to. And learn from your past experience. Don't pump at all in the beginning if you can help it. That as one of my mistakes.

Moms who were unsuccessful with BFing #1...

I tried to BF DD1 and she had NO interest..pumped for 4 months and never got more than maybe 6 oz a day...it was sad, I had a lactation consultant come to the house but I felt trying and giving something was better than nothing..

With DS (just 7 weeks old now), he latched with my nipple shield but I had issues after my csection so I didn't room with him during the first day and a half..I nursed and nursed when I had him and had to supplement due to my GD but had my doubts when he would nurse for an hour and still be hungry...I went to an LC at my ped. and she confirmed what I thought..he wasn't getting really anything from me..this discouraged me from the pumping and nursing I was doing and I am tearing as I write this because I finally got the baby who cooperates but don't have anything to give...I would say if any part of you wants to, try it..you can always decide it's not for you or just pump..I am envious of moms who can and do...

Moms who were unsuccessful with BFing #1...

I had a really bad experience with my first and attempting to BF. I felt awful about it and was depressed over the fact I couldn't BF.

For #2, I decided I would try it out and if it didn't work I wouldn't get myself worked up over it. It turns out my DD latched very quickly and BFing her was much easier this time. I ended up also seeing a LC who helped a lot.
