Baby Movement Monitors
We use the Levana one and with the exception of a couple of false alarms (which is the scariest thing ever, btw), we are happy with it!
ETA: This is the one

I did not register for one. My pediatrician does not recommend them.

Why not? Just curious. We are meeting to interview our pediatrician on Monday, so I will ask. I've seen mixed reviews, but I am totally a paranoid first time mom.

As a FTM, it gives me peace of mind. The only times it went off accidentally were when it wasn't fastened onto her diaper well enough. We started using it once she started sleeping in her own room in her crib.
I never discussed it with the ped, nor did I even think to do so.

Movement monitors are not recommended by the American Academy of pediatrics-studies have not demonstrated a significant difference in SIDs prevention with the use of them- In addition to the studies, last year there was a recall of the angelcare monitor due to strangulation by the cord. DH and I talked to the pediatrician since we had different views on using a movement monitor and the pediatrician supported DHs belief that there is not strong evidence of it helping but there is a risk associated with using a monitor (mainly equipment malfunction).

The one we have is not the Angelcare one. It's actually a small wireless monitor that clips onto the diaper and rests on the baby's belly. If it doesn't detect movement in 15 seconds, an alarm goes off.
One of the two false alarms we had, it took a few seconds to rouse DD b/c she was in such a deep sleep, I really thought she wasn't breathing. I was about to perform CPR until she opened her eyes with a look like "gee mom, I was sleeping!" I was seriously grateful for it b/c if she actually wasn't breathing, I could have (hopefully) done something. It's a to each their own type of thing.

If I were going to purchase a monitor the one Elizarags35 posted is the one I would get. I think wireless is definitely the way to go.

We had an angelcare for DS#1 (2005) and DS#2 (2009).... I loved it and rec'd it to everyone!
I know that they were recalled for strangulation (which shocks me unless it was installed incorrectly....very incorrectly!) and a newer model came out (wireless with a video monitor!) and really wanted to register for it, but the lady at BRU said that angelcare is having problems with distribution...
So it looks like its just the video monitor for us this time around....
