how to get the baby to move

I used to knock on my belly like a door. She always answered.

I used to drink some orange juice then go lay down in a quiet room so I could focus on the baby and not be distracted.

Re: how to get the baby to move

I agree with the PPs, orange juice (or anything sweet), tapping on my belly, or DH talking to my belly always gets him to move around.

But I think in general there are some days where they will move more than others.

how to get the baby to move

I had an anterior placenta - some days he'd be crazy, other days not so much. OJ and spicy food helped to make him move... Sometimes

For me certain foods usually do the trick - watermelon, smoothies, pasta, etc.

Usually also just sitting on the couch at night when I'm completely relaxed is when he moves the most.

Lay on your left side- if you are feeling less movement you should call your OB.

Re: how to get the baby to move

I had anterior placenta so I rarely felt her move. But when I had to go for NSTs and I had to lay there until she moved enough, I would eat a bag of Skittles in the waiting room.
Anything with sugar would wake her right up!

how to get the baby to move

My DS is a super laid back baby. That combined with my anterior placenta has definitely caused my some stress when I won't feel him for long periods of time. None of the tricks above work on him. We joke that he is already incredibly stubborn... no matter what I eat/drink/do he only moves around when he wants to. My OB watched me closely at first and gave me a couple of non stress tests and ultra sounds to check fluid levels but everything always came back looking great. She said some babies are just more sedentary than others and this is his "normal". I can't say I don't still worry sometimes (I am 34 weeks) but I try to just remember I am doing everything "right" and getting the best prenatal care and he is just resting up to grow big and strong. I'm jealous of my BFF who is 37 weeks and her son moves nonstop day and night. Of course she wishes she had my problem instead.

Sometimes the baby's position doesn't let you feel him/her as much. I did a non stress test with DS and then had a sono- he was moving like a crazy person, but I felt nothing! He was breech at that point.

Hopefully he is like this once you give birth! I feel like Nicholas always wants to be moving because I was very active during my pregnancy always running errands and moving around.

Have you tried wearing him in a carrier while you run errands or do stuff around the house?

Chat Icon I tried this the other day and he stood right up in the carrier. Perfectly stiffened himself. Mike and I were laughing hysterically. We need to figure something else out for islanders games now.

He's perfectly content playing on his floor mat (fp kick and play piano) or hanging out in his swing or when we are out in his stroller. I can get stuff done and shower so I'm good. He just hates red lights!
