Glucose test drink alternatives?
I think this is important to know. I don't usually post stuff from blogs, but this time, there have actually been studies connected to this one, so I don't feel that it's as mystical as some other things...
Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) is not acceptable for use in the EU, India and Japan, and our soft drink companies have agreed to remove this ingredient from their drinks by _______? (not sure)
While it is not used as a flame retardant as the article/blog states, it has been linked to kidney damage and (with excessive use) brain damage.
It is also an additive in the yucky orange glucose drink for our glucose test! Has anyone heard about alternatives?
Link to blog, grain of salt not included.

Re: Glucose test drink alternatives?
A friend told me about this recently.
Brach's jelly beans instead of glucose drink
ETA: For the 1 hour, you'd have to eat 19 Brach's jelly beans in under 10 minutes. For the 3 hour, you'd have to eat 38 Brach's jelly beans in under 15 minutes.

Throw in some Snickers and Dorritos and it sounds like a typical Friday night to me....

Re: Glucose test drink alternatives?
My midwife wrote me a script that said "Own juice okay" and I took it with apple juice. She said she didn't like that drink and that any fruit juice with more than 50g of sugar would work.
HTH!

Glucose test drink alternatives?
Anything with 50 grams of sugar should be acceptable. Btw, I don't think the article should be taken with a grain of salt. If there are alternatives, why not avoid this nasty drink, kwim ?

Glucose test drink alternatives?
Well, it's not a medical journal article, it's a blog. I'm normally not one to follow instructions from a blog (she's wrong about the flame retardant part) but I think she brought up some important point.
Thanks for the advice on the 50g sugar

I'd say this is the better way to go, bc I'm sure the jelly beans also contain some not so great ingredients.
