Car rental promos
I'm normally a master at getting great rental rates, but I can't find any good deals this year. Last year a couple of agencies were running flat rate for the week in an SUV for like $165 for the week! Can anyone suggest any promos I might be missing?

I did find one for Avis for $189-comes to $260 after tax. It's nit terrible, but I've done better in the past.

Thanks for the info...you got me a great deal last year on my rental car when we went to Myrtle Beach- even the lady at the counter was surprised! I couldn't find any this year as well... I bought our rental car with our CC points. We may go down twice this year so I will keep this post in mind!
ETA when I was looking I did find that BJ's offered the car rentals at a lower prices vs. me going to the rental websites direct

I'm usually a guru at this, but it's slim pickings this year. I booked the Avis one, but I'm hoping for a better deal closer to our travel dates. Last year it was $109 plus tax for a mid suez SUV, this year $189 is the best I can find. And I've checked a ton of websites

Keep checking. My President's week rental was like $400 with every company. A week before our trip I found a Dollar city special for $107.

I found the same thing this year for our trip to FL in the fall - usually I can find a much better rate than I did. I booked something and am going to keep looking. Last time I did get a better rate about a month out.

I think that rate is a steal! We rented a minivan in March and it was about $400 for 5 days. We tried to get better rates and were even upgraded from the SUV for "free". Ridiculous.

Just wanted to remind everyone that it pays to check for last minute rates. I was able to book a mid size SUV on Hotwire for $198. I just saved $60!!!
