Hawaii
When is their rainy season? We're looking into staying at Maui. Any recommendations on hotels. We'll be traveling with all 4 kids (19, 7, 5 and 1yr)

Re: Hawaii
Hawaii's rainy season is December - March. Don't be scared off by the rainy season though - usually if it's raining on one side of the island, it's sunny on another.
If you are looking at Maui, I would recommend the Wailea area if you are going during the rainy season - it's the sunnier coastline.
The bonus of going during the wet season: the whales are in!

We're thinking about going in Mid January as a birthday gift to all the girls since all their birthday are 2 weeks apart. Is it best to rent a condo versus hotel? I don't even know where to start.

Re: Hawaii
I went to Maui in 2006. We stayed at The Grand Hyatt... it was part of our honeymoon trip, but there were definitely kids and family activities.
It was right on Kanapaali (?) beach and was walking distance to other hotels, restaurants, shopping areas. Weather was great, but it was mid-September.
They had a great breakfast every day, and we went to a lu'au there. They had a waterpark area for kids.
Not sure what your budget is (The Grand Hyatt was definitely more of a luxury hotel), but when we planned our Hawaii trip, we bought a few guidebooks on Hawaii to get ideas on hotels and what to do in each area we stayed. I am sure you can find all of that info online, but I sometimes find an up to date, all inclusive travel guide book to be less overwhelming and a good place to start before delving in online!
Hawaii is so fabulous, I am sure it will be great no matter where you stay. The rough part will be the long flight with the 4 kids! lol

Re: Hawaii
January is a great time to go. I've never rented a condo in Hawaii, so I can't help there.
The Wailea area will have slightly better weather (less chance of rain) than the Kaanapli area in January.
The Grand Wailea is great for families - fun pools, lots of choices for food, etc.
In the Kaanapali area, we usually stay at the Hyatt but all of the hotels along the strip are really nice. The Westin and the Marriott also have great pools. The Sheraton is on the nicest section of beach in Kaanapali.
The Kaanapli area might be better for the 19 year old - more stuff to do, closer to Lahaina, etc.

Hawaii
We went in August and there was rain - but it's not rain like we have here. It's almost refreshing. We stayed at the Hyatt in Maui which was great! They have a separate pool for the children with water slides and as far as I know, there's some sort of program that the kids can do during the day if you wanted to relax without them.

This is where we stayed as well. I liked that it was close to Lahaina. We went in June though, had nice weather..
