chest congestion at 36 weeks/less than 3 weeks before c section

So as if I could not be further tortured by this pregnancy, 2 days ago I became congested with a cough. Nasal congestion is fairly normal for me, but the mucous is clear for the most part. The cough is already painful near my previous c section scars and hinders my sleep. I was already struggling with breathing when I lay down even on my side propped up and pillow between my legs.

I am feeling miserable but also worried that I will be sick during the section should I go early (my water broke at 37 weeks with my second DD) and about a lingering cough after the section. Those who have had them know coughing is not fun after a section. I was already struggling to sleep and with breathing discomfort. I was told by the pharmacist that all I can take is benadryl but I'm not having sneezing fits or watery eyes. I'm extremely tired and afraid that not only will benadryl not help but that it will make me more tired and uncomfortable. I am the only driver in my household due to my DH having been hurt in an accident so I need to be as alert as possible which has been problematic to begin with. OB office is obviously closed and not sure this constitutes a medical emergency worth getting the on call doctor involved.

I'm so miserable. Any ideas on what i can take?

eta. I gave up and took a Mucinex. Just 1, plain Mucinex. It was that or find something high to jump off of. I know it's category C, but I can't deal and not sure who I pissed off in the universe to be tortured so badly.

I had a bad cough my entire pg from the post nasal drip. Mine went away the minute I gave birth. All the extra mucus was pg related.

This is new, definitely acute. My nose started up since I posted soI will take some flonase. I did take the mucinex I can't say I feel good but cough is a little better, I feel dizzy and nauseous probably from the medicine and exhaustion. I'm so sleep deprived I'm losing my mind. I want the pregnancy over but I know it will just be a million times worse after. Just can't believe I got sick at this point.

I had this exact same thing threw weeks before my c section and was so worried that they would wheel me into delivery with this horrible cough. I had the cough for about 10 days, out was horrible and non productive even though I was coughing until I was in pain. Everything ended up being okay, and I ended up delivering three days before my section.

I had a cough from 34 weeks on. I thought I was sick and nothing was making it better. I took everything they could give me with no relief. I just dealt with it. I had a c section at 39 weeks, once the baby was out it all went away. In the end it was all pregnancy related with the mucus and the dr said also acid reflux even though I did not feel heart burn.

I really gave in today. Did the mucinex in the morning and tonight I took Tylenol PM since it has benadryl in it. So far the sneezing stopped and maybe I will get just a little sleep. Glad I waited, my OB told me a few weeks ago to take Tylenol pm just for sleeplessness but I felt uncomfortable doing that. Well, I really needed some relief.So odd this started with a ccough and now I have the sinus stuff. Usually I get sinus stuff and an annoying cough that lasts forever. I hate taking so much meds but I wanted to jump out a window and couldn't deal.
