Is Animal Kingdom worth it??

My boys will be 9 and 6. Trying to plan ahead. We are going in Sept so I know it will be hot, don't want to go if all animals are too hot to come out like at the zoo. Is it a MUST do or ehh?

Re: Is Animal Kingdom worth it??

We went in January with my 8 and 5 year old and they loved it!! They loved the dinosaur section (the rides and other attractions). There were tons of animals out (it was cooler so not sure if that impacts it)...way more than I've ever seen at the Bronx Zoo. We spent a full day there but only expected to spend a half day. They liked it way more than Epcot.

It's my favorite park. It's not just a zoo and I love that it is so different than the rest of the parks. More peaceful.

Re: Is Animal Kingdom worth it??

yes - It is so much more than a zoo!

Our favorite ride was there - Expedition Everest!

and the safari if done the very first thing in the morning - all the animals are out and about!

Donald's Safari breakfast was our fav character dining as well!

Re: Is Animal Kingdom worth it??

If you're kids like animals, then they will love Ak. We did the character breakfast at Tuskers before the park opened and went straight to the safari. We saw every animal and we were there in June and it was very hot. My kids weren't even tall enough for all of the rides so I actually think it's better to go with slightly older kids like yours. The shows there are awesome. Definitely don't miss Nemo or Lion King. We stayed until about 4:00 and then finished with an early dinner at Rainforest Cafe. It was a great day.

It's not my fav, but my kids really like it. There are so many other things than just seeing the animals. The animals are my least favorite part lol. They are building an Avatar land there, not sure when it opens though.

I really don't compare it with places like the bronx zoo. Yes there are animals but there is much more to do than the animals. If you like:
roller coasters there is expedition Everest.
Water rides -kali river rapids,
Dinosaurs - there are dinosaur rides,
shows- the lion king will be open again, finding nemo, bug's life, cute bird show my kids enjoyed.

We rarely do much in the way of animals.

Btw to the above poster avatar land will be a long time off. I think they said 2017?

I like Animal Kingdom. On top of what the other posters stated - it's a great place to see the characters, the lines don't tend to be as long.

We are going in late Sept and went at the same time 2 years ago. It was warm but, it wasn't unbearably hot and Animal Kingdom is very shady.

AK is my boys' favorite park. We love the shows and attractions best. I would not compare it to a zoo. I also like that it is not as crowded as the other parks.

Re: Is Animal Kingdom worth it??

Personally, I don't think it's worth it.
It's not as open, so even when it's not crowded, it FEELS very crowded. -
My boys are still small though ......

Is Animal Kingdom worth it??

I went to AK for the first time in February and wasn't that impressed. DD is only 2.5 so that may have something to do with it. We did love Kilimanjaro Safaris though. We are going back to Disney in November and don't plan on doing AK.

Re: Is Animal Kingdom worth it??

We took our 3 year old son and he didn't want to leave. We planned for a half day and ended up doing full day instead. I would plan at least half day and take it from there
