Spare a million?
Actor Richard Gere plays such a convincing homeless man that a kindhearted woman — who had no clue he was really a famous actor worth nearly $100 million — gave him a bag of food on the set of his latest movie in Midtown.
Not a single New Yorker recognized the handsome star of “Pretty Woman” and “An Officer and a Gentleman,” who was dressed in shabby clothes and munching a burger from a trash can near Grand Central Station around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Sporting a ski cap and scruffy facial hair, Gere guzzled a beer from a brown bag amid rush-hour commuters as cameras shot the scene from across the street.

Gere was in character for his upcoming flick “Time Out of Mind,” and didn’t break from it when the generous woman handed him food in an “I Love NY” bag. He took it, smiled and thanked her.
The 64-year-old Golden Globe winner often takes clean-cut heartthrob roles.
But while filming this movie, he has managed to fool even the most astute New Yorkers.
“I saw him. He looked like a natural homeless guy. He didn’t seem like he was acting. He was an excellent homeless man,” said Mizan Rahman, 44, who sells newspapers on Park Avenue near East 42nd Street.
“He was putting his hand in the trash. He looked like a real homeless guy finding something . . . like the homeless men I see in many different places.”
Other workers nearby noticed cameras — but couldn’t figure out what filmmakers were doing.
“We saw the camera crews right outside, but we had no idea what they were shooting,” said one worker at the Kenneth Cole shop on 42nd Street.
Gere also was spotted chugging a beer on a bench and sitting on a sidewalk while filming the movie earlier this month.
Workers near Grand Central couldn’t identify the woman who gave Gere the food on Tuesday.

I know we have a lot of women who work in the area.
Could it be an LIF'er or someone they know??

I was in Grand Central about 12:30 yesterday but didn't notice him. Although, I'm not even sure if he was there at that time.

Who's the

I haven't noticed any film crews around - I am on the corner of Madison and 42.
Then again, after 34 years of commuting into the city, I sadly have become oblivious to the homeless population.
What a wonderful thing this lady has done.

I work on 46th and Park and never notice cameras either!

I would probably notice a homeless person though since you get to know them - I see the same ones everyday!

Re: Who's the "hobo" taking Charity....

A French mom revealed herself as the mystery do-gooder who gave Richard Gere food without realizing the actor was only playing the role of a homeless man.
Kindhearted tourist Karine Gombeau, 42, of Paris, had come from a bon voyage to Little Italy with her family Tuesday when she spotted a man who appeared to be a hobo sifting through the trash near Grand Central Terminal, she told The Post Saturday.
Touched by the sorry sight, Gombeau offered him leftovers from an “enormous” pizza that she, her husband and 15-year-old son had ordered at an Italian eatery, she told The Post.
“What’s in the bag?” Gere, 64, asked.
“I tried to tell him in English, but it came out half in French,” she said.
“I said, ‘Je suis désolée [I am sorry], but the pizza is cold.’?”
Apparently, millionaire beggars can’t be choosers.
“He said, ‘Thank you so much. God bless you,’?” Gombeau recalled.

She didn’t learn that the undercover bum was actually a famous actor until a worker at the Salisbury Hotel, where she stayed in Midtown, handed her a copy of The Post two days later. She was stunned to find a photo of herself with the star inside the paper, she said.
“It was magical .?.?. It’s crazy, this story. It’s unimaginable that something like this could happen,” she gushed.
“I think he’s very handsome, even at his age,” she added. “?‘Pretty Woman’ was not my favorite movie, but I really loved ‘Chicago.’?”
Gombeau, who works in the tourist industry, said it broke her heart to see homeless people in the Big Apple.
“It leaves me really sad to know we waste food and they have nothing,” she said. “It really moves me.”
Before bumping into Gere, her husband had been shooting video of Grand Central, for fun, on his handheld camera, she said. They didn’t realized they had stumbled onto the set of Gere’s new movie, “Time Out of Mind.”

Bruno Gombeau poses with the pizza that the family did not finish in Little Italy, prompting his wife to offer it to the “homeless” Gere.
One detail, however, probably should have tipped off the tourist trio.
“People came from all over the station and told my husband to stop filming,” Gombeau said. “People came out of the subways. It was very confusing.”
The family spent four days in New York sightseeing in Times Square, at Ellis Island and in Chinatown.
