Town of Hempstead recycling help
Do you need to have a recycling bin in order for them to pick up your recyclables?
Dh and I just moved and today was our first recycling pick up...but they didn't take our recyclables We had some corrugated boxes but they left us a slip saying why they didn't take them. There was one clear blue garbage bag that had soda bottles, cans and glass jars and they left that too. Does each material need to be separated? Or do we just need to put it in a bin? I'm confused as to why they didn't take that bag

Re: Town of Hempstead recycling help
Hi the same thing happened to us when we moved here from queens 3 years ago.
Anyhow, call the town of hempstead you can get there number online and tell them your a new resident and need a recycling bin they will send it to you free of charge.
Just don't put it in separate bags. I know that's how queens does it I'm not sure if that's where your from. You can also pick up recycle bin from Home Depot also. But why pay if they give you 1 for free when you are a new resident.
Anyhow when you get the bin everything goes in do not separate the glass, cans etc. the only thing that needs to be separate is the boxes. You can either put them in a seep rate bin. Or just break them down and tape them together place them next to the recycle.
Oops also paper (like newspapers, ads) put them in a paper bag in the same bin as the boxes. Whew....I hope this helps.

Re: Town of Hempstead recycling help
Call the Town of Hempstead and they'll deliver you a new container.
You can just throw all of your recycling directly into that - don't put it into a bag or they won't take it. You can throw in glass, metal and plastic. Everything should be rinsed.
Paper (newspaper, cataglogs, etc) must be tied with string or put into a paper bag (like a shopping bag from Trader Joe's). Cardboard boxes must be flattened and tied with string.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
