Re: time to get to an airport
I would leave at 5:15. 6Am and the lines start at JFK. I rather wait at the gate then stress about missing the flight.

time to get to an airport
Is it Jetblue? If so - I would get there early. I have a friend who arrived 90 minutes before a flight last month and ended up missing it since it took forever to get through security.

Check into your flight the day before online. It will save you time. I don't know what part of Nassau you're leaving from, but I wouldn't leave before 5:30am. You have up until 7am to check into your flight, so that will give you an hour to get through security - which is more than enough time IMO.

Re: time to get to an airport
I would leave about 530 or 515 if you are taking car service. I would leave 5 if you drive bc parking can take awhile. You do want to be 2 hrs early bc security can be long. Much better to relax by the gate with a coffee or breakfast than be stressed wondering if you will get through security in time. It takes us about 20-30 mins w/out traffic from where I am in Nassau. I don't think you will hit too much traffic the earlier you go. But you never know with accidents etc.

If you have bags to check, you need to get there at least an hour before. I'd say 2 hours before is more than enough time. Have fun!

Re: time to get to an airport
Are you checking in luggage?
If yes, I would leave by 530 depending on how far you live from the airport.
If you are only doing carry on, leaving by 6 may be ok.
We try to pack light and avoid checking in luggage for our trips. We leave 2 hours, sometimes only 1.5 hrs prior to our trips. We live 15 minutes from the airport though. Our routine is I drop off DH and kids at the curb, then I go park the car and meet them at the gate. This has worked for us for domestic trips.

Re: time to get to an airport
We just had a weekday flight at JFK via Jetblue at 7:30am We left Massapequa at 5:15am via car service. We got to airport and there were long lines, we have Global Entry which gives us TSA Pre and our friends had the even more speed. We got through very quick on the TSA precheck line and they took an extra 15 minutes to go through security. If we didn't have the "even more speed" the lines would of been insane. We checked in online and did curbside check in. We still had time to have breakfast at the restaurant. and relax before the flight.
