Anyone good with sick kids?

I just always feel so confused as to what I should do when my DD is sick.

Last night at midnight my DD (19 months) started throwing up. In 2 hours, she threw up 6 times. By 3am she was back asleep and slept an hour or two later than usual. No fever then.

We've only been offering cheerios, water and pedialyte ice pops since then.

She was tired this morning, so I put her down for her nap and she slept for 4 hours straight. I knew that I would find out she had a fever. So when she woke i took her temperature and she did have a fever so I gave her some tylenol and more water, ice pop and cheerios.

I just feel confused about what I should be doing with her. Do I take her to the doctor? How often should I monitor her temperature? When do I attempt offering real food again? Is there something I should be doing for her that I am not thinking of? What's wrong and how long should I expect this to last? ... I just keep asking all these questions in my head and more and more questions just keep popping up and giving me anxiety.

Monitor the temp.

Probably just a virus and the Dr won't do anything. IF the fever spikes and stays up then I would take to the Dr.

How long it will last??? who knows. There is no crystal ball since everyone reacts differently to germs

Sounds viral and just needs to run it's course. Keep her hydrated which you're doing with the pops and let her sleep it off. It will pass.

Just keep an eye on the fever.

I would rotate Tylenol and Motrin as well to keep the fever down.

I only call the Dr if they seem uncomfortable (for us it usually means an ear infection).

There are a bunch of viruses going around right now - I hope she feels better soon.

I wouldn't bother calling the ped unless she really starts not taking anything for a long time. A few months ago, my DD was vomiting about every 10-15 mins for 7-8 hours straight. When I called the service, they just said to keep trying to give her a teaspoon of liquid at a time, or the ice pops. Even when I told them that she was vomiting every drop I put into her, they didn't seem worried as long as she was still peeing, having tears, and making saliva. I would not recommend Motrin at this point if she isn't taking in anything since it really should be taken with food or drink, and can upset the tummy. I would monitor the temp, and call the MD if it goes above 102. It should pass in a day or so. You can start giving her regular food as she seems able to tolerate it. You'll be able to tell. When she starts getting hungry, and perking up a bit, start with something mild like crackers, or toast with jelly, maybe noodles in a bit of broth, or something easy. Then just progress the diet as she will take it.

I would give her tylenol for her fever (and motrin at night). I wouldn't alternate those 2 unless she has a high fever that won't come down or stay down with just the tylenol alone. Keep offering her things. If she's up to it, offer her some soft foods to see if she holds it down. And let her sleep. Her body is fighting something. Sounds like you are doing the right thing. I feel like motherhood is all about feeling that you don't know what you're doing - but I bet you are doing quite a bit right
