sick child in Disney

SO, DS has had a fever on and off since Thursday . It's been as high as 105. It is 102 right now. We are leaving for Disney tomorrow night. He has been on antibiotics since Thursday bc dr thought it might be strep. Seems the meds are not doing anything - so maybe it's just a virus that has to run its course.

Any advice? Anyone ever have to visit a dr down in disney? Chat Icon

I'm SURE this has happened to tons of ppl before. ...just stressing.

Re: sick child in Disney

About 25 years ago, while at Disney my brother got sick. We called the hotel front desk and they had a doctor come visit us in the hotel room. He was able to prescribe an rx and we were able to fill it in a local pharmacy. I hope your DC feels better soon. I know that there can be issues flying with a cold.

sick child in Disney

I know my co-workers son ended up very sick during their Disney trip. He ended up having to be hospitalized but before that she said there is some kind of urgent care I believe it's called Centra Care. She was very pleased with their response I believe it's in the Downtown Disney area.

Thee are quite a few urgent care centers in the area, should you need it.

We used Centracare this winter when my son got the flu at Disney. They offered a free shuttle go come get us and bring us back to our hotel.. Our concierge also told us if DCs were urgently ill, they'd arrange for a physician to come to our hotel room.

Hope your DS feels better!

sick child in Disney

Last June we went to Disney for 3 nights and then went to Disney's resort in Vero Beach. Our 2nd day in Vero DD had a fever of 103. Went to urgent care and they said she had a slight ear infection and they prescribed antibiotics. She started taking them but they didn't really seem to help. The night we got home her fever spiked to 105. We brought her to PM Peds and they said it was viral. She was fine the next day, literally like nothing happened.

Hugs to you. It's no fun being on vacay with a sick kid.

we had to go to 1 when we were there in october for my oldest. 2 days later we went again for my youngest. We just used our cell phone to find one that was the closest.

Re: sick child in Disney

Could you make an early morning trip again to his dr. Before you leave? I think lsp2005 could be referring to the pressure. My dh flew while being sick and I remember his head killing him due to the pressure.

i was thinking his head/ears might really hurt when landing and taking off.

Anyone know if there is something I can give him for that?

I talked to his dr this afternoon, thank you for the suggestion!

Sorry that I did not see your question until this evening. I am glad that you were able to connect with your doctor. Yes, I meant the ear pressure. I hope that you are all able to enjoy your vacation.

You are not supposed to fly with an ear infection. I believe aside from bad pain with the pressure changes there is risk of eardrum rupture. But flying with any sort of sinus, nasal or ear issue is not fun. The pressure changes can make it very tight and painful (from personal experience).

Did they do a strep rapid and culture? I know my ped will not prescribe antibiotics with a positive result. Can you get him in before you leave? Disney is germ city (my kids got a nasty stomach bug our last night a few trips back). Aside from giving it to others if he is sick now he could catch something if he is run down and end up even more sick.

I feel your pain as we went to WDW about 4 days into antibiotics for confirmed strep in both girls.

There are concierge type doctors who will come to your room but are expensive. There are some urgent clinics which provide a free shuttle and there are always taxis if you should need one. Chat Icon

I swear by "Earplanes " . You can get them at cvs. They have child and adult sizes. I used them last year when I had an ear infection and serious sinus pressure and they made a world of difference. They are earplugs with valves in them that slowly release the pressure.

Thank you everyone!!!

I am going to try to find the Earplanes before we leave. I know I can see the dr today before we leave if needed too, but I don't really see any reason.

Strep and flu came back negative (strep was sent to lab). So it appears it is a virus. DS is a child who gets fevers like nobody's business, so it's not unusual for him to get sick like this - just stressing me out with the trip. Since this started last Thursday, I am hoping we are nearing the end of it? Chat Icon

Thank you so much for your advice!!!!!
