DS is 3 years 4 months and is FINALLY potty training. He's been going pee pee on the potty for the past 2 days. His twin sister has been potty trained for months. I have one of those foldable travel seats for her for when we go out somewhere. DS will not stand to go pee pee. We tried that and it freaks him out right now. My question is, when your out, how does your DS go potty? The foldable seats don't come with one of those little pee pee guards so I could imagine it would go everywhere if he peed. What do I do? This is making me really anxious!!! TIA!

I used the foldable seats for him - he was taught at daycare to push his penis down while peeing.

I taught him this too and he does it, but the guard on the little potty here kind of just holds his pens down for him once he tucks it in. I'll try and teach him to hold it down himself instead of just tucking it in. Thanks!!!

DS is 3.5 and just recently (in the last month) started to do pee pee standing up. We still help him to make sure his aim is right Chat Icon

As for when we are out, prior to him going standing up, I would take the portable seat and have him hold his pee pee down into the toilet while he is sitting.

We just make sure he keeps holding it facing down until he is done, otherwise, its a mess. If DH is with us, he brings him to the urinals and holds him over them while he goes.

We've taught all three to push their penis down if they were sitting to pee and to not "start" to go until it was pushed down.

Want to add that each one will potty train differently. My oldest was good with pee during the day from age 3 but still had pee accidents at naps/overnight until he was almost 5 and he struggled with pooping on the potty until he was 4.5.

My second was done at age 3, instantly potty trained in a day when he was emotionally and mentally ready on his birthday.

Third one just turned 2 and is already trained for during the day but has no control during naps or overnights. I wasn't going to push until 2.5yrs but he sees his brothers going and he wants to wear underwear so I'm following his lead.

Congratulations! My DS is almost 3.5, has been trained since last July and still doesn't stand up (but I'm hoping to practice this over the summer before he goes to pre-k). Anyway, I never bothered with those travel seats with my girls or with him...I just wipe the seat down, he sits right on it and pushes his penis down and that's it.

Thanks ladies! I am going to teach him to hold it down while sitting on the potty. He is still super wet during the night so I know he'll need pull ups for quite a while and he hasn't pooped in the potty yet. DD is completely dry when she wakes up and she poop trained a month after she pee trained. She was afraid of pooping for the past year and a half. My third baby is 19 months and as soon as DS is done potty training I am going to start #3 on the potty as he is already showing a little interest.

Thank you! I am super excited about this since he had no interest and would completely shut down when I even mentioned it so this is is a huge step for him!!

Put some Cheerios in the toilet and ask him to try to "shoot" them!!! It worked for us!

We've already tried this and he freaks out. He is just learning so I want to make it as smooth as possible for him. I'll try again once he's got the hang of it all.

DS didn't start standing to pee till 4.5 and he's been trained since 3.5. Funny thing is he stands ONLY at school bc they have a little potty. Just taught him to point his pee pee down. I put toilet paper ALL over the seat and then help him up. He pushes his penis down with one hand while hold the seat to keep him balanced and from falling in with the other. No issues.
Like I said, he pees standing now, but still once in a while he will sit. Usually if he's tired, has to poop or the seat is too high bc we went to a handicapped bathroom. He's a bit short for his age.
