cervix exam?

I have met people who said it was painful. When I was pg with DS (he's 19 months old so it wasn't TOO long ago), it never hurt. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world but for me, pap was more uncomfortable. I will be 17 weeks tomorrow with this pg and do not dread the exams toward the end bc they just weren't so bad.

cervix exam?

Always my OB's hand, never an instrument. Drs know how to gauge dilation by their fingers only. If you're really worried, let your OB know that you're concerned and I'm sure they will be extra gentle.

Re: cervix exam?

For me it depended on the doctor. I had one who was gentle and one where it was uncomfortable/almost painful. But it's pretty fast. In general I personally found internals more painful than paps.

Re: cervix exam?

just a follow up because that exam didn't hurt at all!

maybe it depends on the doctor or our bodies but I didn't even flinch nor shut my legs like I usually do.Chat Icon

I'll take this over the pap any day

I was going to say..I don't remember it bothering me much more than a regular exam or pap but the dr. is very gentle and lets you know everything...

Re: cervix exam?

I've been having internals since week 36 and honestly, they did not bother me.. until last night. A little TMI but I'm a few days past my due date so my doctor tried to speed things along... well he did a membrane sweep. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and let me just say... ouch. So painful. Other than that, not painful. Chat Icon

cervix exam?

IMO it depends on the Dr.

The attending in the hospital when I first got there was not gentle. Then my Dr got there and his is a tall big guy and he was super gentle.
