Good or bad idea? We have about 5 families that we hang out with often. At brunch the other day, Disney was brought up and everyone wanted to seem to go together.

Do you think it would be ok to travel in a large group together?

I am not a fan of traveling with others. I like to do my own thing so even if I were to go with a group we would not spend all our time together.

I could not do it either, even with extended family. We like to do our own thing, go by our kids schedules, and relax.

I'm a bit envious of people that do go away in groups. It's a great community/family vibe, and it creates great memories.

But like I said, it's hard for us to vacation with other families because we like to do things at our pace and that our kids enjoy. We are early risers, like to get out early, do what we want, eat at normal times at restaurants we can afford, and when the kids are done, they are done.

Maybe when the kids are older. Mine are 4 and 1.

I think it's just too complicated to coordinate everyone at someplace like Disney. Think about how much harder it will be to get reservations for dinner, etc. Also, everyone is going to want to do something different and then you may feel like you're comprising on what you want to do just to go along with the group.

I could never! I haven't been to disney since I was a teen but reading everyone's posts here make me think the logistics of a trip there are pretty overwhelming for just one family! I wouldn't want to spend half my trip trying to decide where to go and when and having to constantly wait around for others to do anything.

I love traveling with friends but now that we have kids we stick to renting a house and just hanging out together. Between some getting up early and some late, various eating and napping schedules, and moody toddlers we didn't even attempt to leave the house during our last trip. The time before my friend and I were left behind during the one outing there was bc our babies were napping. With something low key like renting a lake house, having a big group adds to the fun. I would think with Disney it will be much more likely to take away from the fun.

One other family - yes. Maybe two other families tops.

FIVE families? NO WAY.

We had gone with 1 of the families previously and had a wonderful time. I think the other friends also want to go after hearing about our fun trip.

I do think making reservations for anything would be a nightmare. Not sure how we would coordinate fast pass, naps, etc.

maybe it is a bad idea.

I went with my sister and her family last year, we had a good time. But, with the new Fast Pass + system, I don't think I would go with more than 1 family. Seems like a logistical nightmare.

I would think it would be a logistically nightmare, but if everyone decided to go at the same time, keep their own schedules but maybe make one or two group meal reservations, it might be fun. That way, everyone can do whatever they want but you can still spend some time enjoying the trip together. As long as everyone had the same trip expectations, I think it's possible. Now with this being said, would I do it? Probably not, I would be way too stressed.

I think traveling together would be ok. But would never expect all the families to do everything together. Maybe a few scheduled activities or meals together through the vacation but the rest of the time on our own. That way if one or two families want to do one thing everyone else is free to do what they want. Personally, just because we all go at the same time does not mean every second needs to be spent together.

That has bad idea written all over it.... I'm dreading an upcoming fam vacation (12 of us) and we're only doing the beach!! I can't imagine planning a disney trip around 5 fams. I'd go with the grandparents and that's about it.

While fun, every time you try and do things with a big group it's usually a huge stress.

I've done Disney with a lot of people and it honestly ends up being frustrating. Everyone wants to eat at different times, see different things, do different things........it becomes chaos.

We've done trips like cruises with a big group and that actually worked out awesome. But I personally think Disney with a big group is more stress than fun.

This.... Just because you are all there at the same time doesn't mean you have to stay together ALL the time... I have been down with other families and we have days where we do separate parks and then days where we stay with each other... I have seen different things when with other people..... It can work...

Re: What do you think about going to disney with a bunch of families?

We did Disney with a large group a few years ago. This was before I had a kid, but there were quite a few kids on the trip, and it did get complicated. In hindsight, I think the best way to handle something like this is to not worry about the group staying together. Some people wanted to spend more time in Animal Kingdom, some wanted to focus on the Magic Kingdom, some wanted to go back to Epcot in the evening etc. Complicated!

I didn't care because I didn't have a kid then, but we definitely ended up spending way too much time standing around trying to figure out what the consensus of the group was.

If it was now, I would be like, "we're having breakfast at 8 and hitting such and such park by 9. If you're with me great, if not see you later."

Meh

Just rent a house for those you can stand to be with. I'm a rebel. No one TELLS me how to enjoy my vacation. Sure we can hang out here and there, but I do my own thing. Most of my friends (as one of my LIF friends here was actually AT Disney when I was there) are the same. Hey enjoy your family time, I'll enjoy mine and we can meet up here and there when its possible.

So I think its possible as long as expectations are set.

For me it depends on what type of people they are. Are they simialr with your travel style. For example, are they the type that likes to plan every moment of the day? if so are you?

I have gone away with friends and we made it clear that we would not be together every moment of the day. We had a blast. it worked out great becuase there was always someone who wanted to do the same thing but there was no requirement that we all did everything together all the time!

Re: What do you think about going to disney with a bunch of families?

I am too much of a control freak to vacation with a lot of people. I want to plan what we're going to do that day, and not have others try to sway my plans. As it is, when we go to Disney, I told my family who lives in FL that we will be there, but also let them know which park we are going to which day. They can join us if they want, or not.

I think the best kind of vacation for a large group is a cruise. You can do some activities together, and have a set dining time together, but do as much separate as you want.
