Trying to decide if its worth it for me to drive to to DC just me and my 2 DDs for 2 nights and spend about $600-700 (hotel, gas, tolls, parking, food and activity) this would be in early April so not sure what the weather will be like.
I would really like to get out of town with them and I've done philly, great wolf, and sesame place for the same amount of time and $ just the 3 of us. It's just a lot ($ and time doing it by myself) but I feel like it would be nice for them/us to see DC. The bus tour is one thing I have planned. I got a hotel near the zoo and metro.

There is a cherry blossom festival in the second of week of April. I don't know how old your DDs are but the cherry blossoms are so beautiful..I think it's totally worth it.

Yes I JUST realized this too! We would love it. We would go during the tail end. Will be crowded though!

Amtrak is so great to take, esp with the girls, Irving around that spider web of a city is a nightmare! Kiloton hotels let the kids rent a pet goldfish for their stay, it's cute. If not, try a hotel in crystal city. They often have cheap shuttles into town.

Do you think queens to DC is too far for 2 nights if we drive? Getting to Pt Authority is a trip too.

You can get to DC in about 4 hrs. Maybe less depending on what time you leave. I'm done Amtrak. It's so much better than driving. You can get up/walk around, eat in the cafe car.
April in DC is beautiful. Perfect weather. Most of the museums are free!
Baltimore Harbor is nice too (about 30 min away). There is an aquarium there.

I agree with Amtrak. Definitely better with kids IMO.
The spy museum is a lot of fun! How old are your DDs?

The zoo is fun, air and space museum, natural and american history museums are three fun options especially if they like the natural history museum in NYC. Those three are easy to do bc they are all on the mall near each other. How old are your kids? There is the spy museum as well. Much easier to get around by the metro as driving and parking by the mall can be painful.

Re: D.C.
Thanks everyone! My kids are 8 and 10. Going to any city is $$$ and that's what I'm trying to figure out if it's worth spending $700 for 2 days.

It's worth it for DC. Amtrak will go out of Penn to DC, and it's not the far that matters. It's the fact that driving IN and around DC is such a hassle. Have fun!!!!!

I would cut your lodging expenses by looking on Hotwire or Priceline.
