Can I bring dd

to a baby shower? Is it rude?

I will ask if they mind but I know they will say yes to be polite even if they don't want her there.

I want to bring her because I am really not going to know many people there and I need someone to talk to!

Re: Can I bring dd

I had a baby shower last weekend. I thought DH would be around to watch dd so I RSVPed and did not ask about bringing her. Then I found out he was working. I then received a call from the mom who was hosting the shower asking me to remind her whether I said yes or no - she forgot to write it down. I told her that I was coming and then said oh, while I have you on the phone, I wanted to ask if it would be okay if I brought my 8 month old since her father is working.
I was shocked by her answer - she said "it is really not appropriate"! I was like oh, ok, I'll see if I can still make it. My mom volunteered to watch dd so I did go but I was floored by her response. It was the first baby shower I went to where there were no babies! I even had women nursing at mine!
I recommend that you ask - if they say yes, then bring her.

I brought Emily to my sister's shower. I wouldn't have even though of the possibility that it wouldn't be inappropriate. In fact my sister told me that all her co-workers were looking forward to meeting her. I guess everyone is just different.

I hate to differ then the rest, but I would not. At my shower, there were three babies and it was distracting--their moms were constantly leaving, the babies were crying and running around. It really made me upset. JMO

I agree with this.....it's a BABY shower. I would have no problems with it at all but I would ask beforehand.

We had someone bring a baby to the baby shower I just hosted without asking and it was fine. DD was in the house too just napping or in the basement with DH.

I agree 100%, its a BABY shower, not a bachelorette (sp?) party.

I wouldn't bring mine unless they asked me or her name was on the invite.

I didn't care if someone brought their kid to my baby shower. As as a mom, one of the first things you learn is there it's not easy to always find babysitting. I know there are many other women that feel differently so I wouldn't even ask.

I think it would be fine, just let them know. But I have been to a bunch of showers were women brought their babies. I wouldn't mind.

I would definitely ask beforehand. I think its perfectly fine, but my mom always has a problem with it. You never know.

Re: Can I bring dd

I actually assumed my cousin would bring her 1yr old to my baby shower and even bought a little toy for her to help keep her entertained. It turns out she didn't bring the baby because she said she didn't want to take any focus off of me. I though that was realy nice of her, but I wouldn't have minded her bringing her daughter either.

I too agree-

I just brought DS to my cousins.... he was the only child there- and was an angel... no one seemed to mind!

My cousin brought her DS to mine- and come to think of it- those with smaller children brought them to my shower- and those with older children left them home...

I see nothing wrong with it, just give a heads up. If they have a problem with it, I wouldn't go...
