Pink eye and eye drops = NOT an easy task

My son has pink eye and a sinus infection.
The pediatrician says he's prescribing eye drops and an antibiotic. I express my frustration regarding the drops and he responds with "it's no big deal" attitude.

Dude!? Seriously!? Putting eye drops 3 times a day in a two year old is not easy!

So it's day three starting tomorrow and I'm already dreading the procedure. Dh and I have to practically hold him down. Which I do not want to do!
He screams and cries. Were lucky if we get one drop in his eye. I feel so bad, I cried tonight after I put him to bed.

I just want my little man to get better :(

Ugh

Pink eye and eye drops = NOT an easy task

A trick I learned from the eye dr. Hold your son like he is a baby. Have him gently close his eyes. Put the drops in the corners of his eyes by his nose and have him open his eyes. The drops will "fall in". It's the only way we can get drops in DS when he needs his eyes dialated.

Good luck and I hope he's better soon!!

We went through that in November. DS had just turned 4. After the first drop went in, it was a battle for every time I did it.. I only got my brother to help me once. He couldn't do it after that :/
I did it fast. Pinned him down. Told him to close his eyes. And put the drops in the corner of his eyes. He got smart after a few days and refused to open his eyes. I then had to "pry" his eye open... If I held them in my hands before I put them in, it was better. They are cold and sting while the eyes are red...

This!

And bribery. My DD new she got 1 m&m per drop she let us put in her eye. We also gave her an m&m to eat while we put the drops in. She had pink eye around age 2, and never really had candy or m&ms before...so this bribery worked well.

My doctor gives us ones that are a super thick liquid, almost like a gel, and if the drop doesn't go in the eye, then I just have to rub them along the lash line. Unfortunately, my dd is too young for the corner of the eye trick - she bats me away like crazy no matter what!

Pink eye and eye drops = NOT an easy task

My dd just got over double pink eye and double ear infection last week. The drops were a nightmare . I let her hold the bottle while I squeezed it, which sort of helped.

I tried this too. He is way too strong and that won't work for him. I guess for the next 4 days left of these drops I am going to have to resort to some sort of bribery..

Thank you for the tips though. :)

I am sure like some one else mentioned, these drops sting their poor little eyes. It's not something I know I would enjoy. Chat Icon
