Can anyone give me feedback on Dr. Gitlin and/or hydrocele surgery
Looking for experiences with Dr. Gitlin and/or with the surgery in general (outcome/recovery). Also, curious as to which hospital was used and experiences with that. TIA

DS had surgery for his hydrocele in October.
We used Dr Reda & it was done in Winthrop.
The nurses were great with him... so great with him & I was really thankful. My DH went in with him as they gave him anesthesia. When DS woke up, he was fine. He didn't thrash & become upset (like he did for another surgery he had) He did feel nauseous but never threw up.
I kept him home from school for a week. DS wasn't allowed to use ride on toys or climb for 3-4 weeks. I tried to keep him from running or jumping alot during that time as well.
It was a laproscopic surgery but he had dissolvable stitches b/c the Dr did have to make a small incision to get the tool in there.
It's been 5 months & DS still has a scar. We have been using Vit E on it every night for the past month. Up until a month ago, we have been using bacitracin almost every night since surgery.

I used dr Gitlin for something else for my DS. I loved him. Super nice. And was great explaining everything. We used Winthrop but I think he also uses Cohens.

They used to go there. My ds had his 1st surgery with Dr Reda at Cohen's but his 2nd at Winthrop because they told me they no longer go there. I personally preferred the child friendly atmosphere at Cohen's but both were equally accommodating to my child & I was very happy with both.

We were told he operates at Winthrop or the LIJ Ambulatory Surgery Center across from Cohen's (from what I read it is used for children's outpatient procedures)

How old is your DS? Did you keep him home for a week to keep an eye on him or because of pain or what? Just trying to figure out when to schedule this. And I have no idea how I will stop my DS from running around once he returns to preschool (daycare). He is 3 and a half.

Yeah, we had ambulatory as well. Now I wonder why the office told us they no longer went to LIJ Cohen's.
My DS was 3.5 at the time of his surgery. The Dr told me to keep him home for a few days. I kept him home from nursery school for a week because they were still taking the kids out to play & didn't want my son to feel left out or to get upset if the teachers were to tell him he had to sit on the bench. I gave him regular tylenol the first night at bedtime. The next morning, he seemed to do ok so I didn't give him any medicine but then FIL came to visit my son after work around 4pm & my son flipped out. He was feeling very irritable. He said that he was in some pain so I gave him the tylenol codeine as soon as FIL left hoping DS would calm down & sleep really well that night. Also te day of and day after he just wanted to relax on the couch & watch tv & lay down - I didn't have any issues with trying to get him to take it easy the first couple of days.

No problem- good luck! I took a pic of his scar today for you- this is what it looks like 5 months after surgery. It's an inch long & looks a teeny bit darker in person.

We used Dr Gitlin for our first son who had abnormal forskin and now our second son will have surgery for hypospadias in a few months - Dr Gitlin is great - very nice - good with questions - everything went smoothly. It was outpatient, i think winthrop
