GD girls need some info?
I got the call I failed my one hour so going for my three hour Monday. I failed my one hour last pregnancy, but passed my three hour. So I'm hoping I'm lucky again this time around but you never know. Getting myself prepared for bad news.
So I'm just wondering what happens after they call you and tell you that you indeed have GD. What is the next step? What do you guys have to do on a daily basis. Meaning how many times do you check your blood sugar. How do you find out exactly what you can eat. Any info is helpful!

GD girls need some info?
I just found out on Tuesday that I have GD. I met with thevdiabetes counselor at Madonna yesterday and she gave me eating guidelines, I will have to check my levels 4x a day. It won't be too bad. I hope you don't have to worry about it!

Re: GD girls need some info?
You meet with a nutritionist and possibly a dr at an endocrinologist office (or where your OB recommends you go).
You test your blood 4 times a day (wake-up, 1 hour after breakfast, lunch & dinner). You also test your ketones with FMU.
Each nutritionist is different, mine limits my carb intake to: Breakfast: 15g AM snack: 15g Lunch: 45g Afternoon snack: 15g Dinner: 60g PM Snack: 30g
My blood sugar 1 hour after each meal has to be under 120.
I've lost about 10lbs since I was diagnosed and started the new "diet". It will plateau at some point.
I wouldn't worry either way - it's manageable. I had it with my 1st pregnancy and now with my 2nd. I keep thinking of it this way - I don't want a 10+lb baby as I want to keep both our bodies in check to deliver vaginally. My DC #1 was 7lbs 7oz, so it all works out.
Good luck!

Re: GD girls need some info?
Okay thanks for the info. We will see what happens. My sister had it with all three pregnancies. She said it wasn't so bad either. It's just added stress I don't need while taking care of two kids.

It is interesting how doctors recommend different things!
I am allowed 30g of carbs at breakfast, 30g for an AM snack, 45g for lunch, 30g for a PM snack, 45g at dinner and 15g before bed.
I don't have to test urine.
Two hours after each meal, she wants to see my numbers between 80&120

different indeed!
15 g - breakfast 15 g - snack mid morning 30 g - lunch 15 g - snack mid afternoon 30 g - dinner 15 g - snack after dinner
I have to test 2 hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner and no urine test for me either. These #'s should be between 80 - 120 and the fasting # no higher than 90.

GD girls need some info?
I wonder if the carb allowances have to do with your weight.
I was overweight starting the pregnancy (180s) so that may be why I get more.

i'm not sure…..I was overweight by like 20 lbs before being preggo but have only gained 20-25 during the pregnancy (I lost weight after starting this diet).
There are days I am so full from eating like this but other days I am ravenous and want more carbs like you wouldn't believe!

I have a few friends who use the same office and we all have the same rules to follow, so it must be the office. I know if you complain you are hungry all the time, they will work with you on adjusting the numbers. As long as I have protein with each snack/meal, I am usually fine, but that's not to say I don't cheat periodically!

I was pretty much the same as this. No keytone testing.
I had a 7lb5oz baby at 39w.
