A few stroller Q's

Hi Ladies - Our first LO will be here soon and I'm trying to figue out the whole stroller thing! Wondering if you can provide some insight.

- Do you really need/use a stroller for an infant or do you mainly keep LO in the car seat/carrier when out and about (ie: Pediatrician)

- If you DO use the stroller for an infant - what kind?

We received the Baby Jogger City Select Single Stroller but the recline isn't appropriate for an infant. Also, it's pretty heavy and not something I'd want to use for quick ins and outs to the doc, for example. We got the car seat adapter - so maybe it's best to use that until he's a bit older?

TIA - no idea why, of all things, the stroller is confusing me!

ETA: New question based on some of the responses I got:

I have the city select, and I think the difference between that and the mini is the weight. I have the adapater for the select but it's so heavy that I just don't picture myself wanting to use it for quick ventures.

Does it make sense to have one lightweight and one 'heavy duty' stroller ... or do those of you that have the snap n go and/or city mini just use that as your primary stroller? Wondering if I should return the select in exchange for the SnG or mini.

I used the snap and go while DS was still in the infant seat...so much easier then taking him in and out. It really wasn't until we moved him into his convertible seat that he actualy sat in the strolled (Approx 7 months)

We constantly use the snap and go. Dd is still in her infant car seat and it's so easy to transfer her back and forth, especially when she's sleeping. It's so lightweight and easier than her full size stroller.

We use her full size stroller when we are doing a lot of walker. It's a much smoother ride, has more room for her but it is a lot heavier.

We also have an umbrella stroller which we will use a lot when she is out of her infant car seat. It's lightweight and easy to fold quickly.

I think it depends on how you live.

I had the city mini with the adapter. If I was going to be somewhere I needed to walk a bunch then I'd bring DS in the carrier and use the adapter on the city mini.

If I was just running into the dr I would just carry the carrier.

IMO I don;t see the need for a snap and go. My stroller worked just fin and why have something else to store.

ETA I just looked it up and the mini is 20lb versus the select which is 28lb. The other thing is, the mini holds up to 65lb whereas the select only 45lb.

I used the snap and go for a year b/c my DD was in the infant seat for a year! Then I used the CityMini.

I used the citi mini from birth, it has a full recline.

Just so you know it's not really good for babies to be in their car seats for lots and lots of time. When not installed in the car, the angle isn't always right and it can be dangerous for their breathing at times. Also it can lead to flat head. And you really shouldn't put the car seat on the top of the shopping cart as it could cause the cart to tip over. A lot of car seat manuals say specifically not to do that.

For something like the pediatrician, I just carried the car seat. It wasn't like I was walking miles, just across the parking lot and there wasn't a need for the stroller. For the grocery store, I wore him in the carrier. I used my car seat for the car only, and left him in the seat for short errands and just carried it. I used my stroller for walks.

I love the snap and go. Used it w/ DS 1 until we moved to the convertible seat and then we had the Chicco C6 which was ok but later got a Liteway for the recline. That's what we'll be doing with DS2 as well.

As far as snap and go use- we use it a lot. On the weekends when we run errands we use it everywhere. I can't stand carrying the seat and though I'd like to carry DS in the ergo, it's really nice for when he falls asleep in the car and we don't have to wake him.

When registering, my brother talked me out of a bigger "system" partially due to weight and limited trunk space. Ours have worked perfectly for us.

I love the snap n go - it has a nice size basket and is easy and light. We switched to the citi mini around 6 or 7 months when DS could sit up and pay more attention to his surroundings. I did still use the snap and go til like 9 months because if he fell asleep in the carrier it was so much easier to keep him in then move him to the citi mini.

I love my City Select. When DD was younger I used the adaptor, but honestly it was a total PITA. Not sure if it was because we had the Peg Perego infant carseat (aka - heaviest car seat on earth), but it was a chore. Once DD got a tad older I started to use the bassinet and that worked really well.

If I were you I would keep the City Select and look into a second hand snap and go to use with the infant car seat. DD loves sitting in the City Select stroller even now, at 2.5 years. I love the basket and how much stuff I can keep in there.

I have the City Mini for my parents and while that stroller is super easy to fold the basket is a joke. DD prefers the City Select, but she's pretty easy and will sit in either.

ETA: DD really didn't like her infant car seat so using the snap and go wouldn't have worked for us for an extended period of time - after about 2 months.
