If your LO breastfeeding one side per feed...
If you are going to pump for missed feedings (like if you go back to work) do you continue the same one sided pattern for pumping or pump both breasts?
I already have over supply and forceful letdown issues that I definitely don't want to make worse, so I'm assuming I shouldn't stimulate both breasts during pump sessions. Anyone have experience with this scenario?

My LO mostly eats from one side at a time. I still pump both sides, I found after a couple months my supply just regulated to this. At the beginning I also had oversupply and forceful letdown but pumping one side never stimulated as much as it could have so if let's say I pumped only the right I could get 2.5 oz, but if I pumped both I could get 4 oz from the right and 2 oz from the left. Just worked better for me.

Thx! My lo is almost 7w so I don't know when this over supply will regulate! I just pumped one sided and got 3.5oz and the other day when I pumped both sides I didn't get that much more in total. But could have been a different time of day or some other factor. I was also worried that pumping one sided wouldn't stimulate enough. I had a LC tell me that pumping both yields better results, I'm still just nervous I'll perpetuate the over supply by doing this.

For a while I dealt with over supply and just stored whatever I didn't use when I pumped more than I needed. It helped me yield a nice freezer stash that I have as a back up now that my supply has regulated. It will regulate! And if it doesn't you could always do one less pumping session at work. I definitely find that it doesn't stimulate enough if I only pump one side.

I had and oversupply/over-active let down with DD1 and eventually had to block feed to get it under control. This time, I have it again and usually just alternate sides, but haven't had to go to block feeding. When I pump for a missed feeding though, I do pump both sides. That seems to be fine. It's pumping in addition to a feeding (I was pumping an hour after morning feed in beginning) that seems to get me in trouble.

That's another thing I'm worried about - in a couple weeks I want to start building a little bit of a stash before I go back to work. In order to do that I'll have to pump an extra "feed" or pump after LO nurses. Either way I'll be telling my body it needs to make more milk. Argh

I think you'll be okay as long as you always pump at that same time.
