Finger foods
I want to start giving DD something other than puffs. She loves those and is doing ok, but every time I try to give her anything that's not a puff she winces at it and turns her head. We try to give her little pieces of what we are eating to try. I've tried giving it to her and also putting it on her tray for her to feed herself and she just gets angry that it's there! She's 9 months and really needs to start eating more table food. She's a great eater with purees and will just about any puree. Any suggestions? This weaning thing is proving to be very difficult!

Re: Finger foods
just put the finger foods on the tray after/while she's eating her regular meal and let her play/explore them. keep it very low pressure, like play time and dont try to force her to eat them or make them her only meal. that;'s how i weaned my kids off purees at 7 months (i should have just did baby led weaning but i was too nervous)
for us everything is a finger food but our on the go foods are peas beans steamed carrots cheese sticks

Just put it there and keep trying. It takes a while for them to make the transition. From my experience its even harder if they are still doing purees. The 2 different textures are hard form them to process in the beginning.

Re: Finger foods
i wouldn't worry too much. I think some kids just aren't ready as early as others. dd was over a year before she REALLY got into table foods. and she only started flat out refusing purees and baby cereal within the last week or two, and she's just about 16 months. dd liked crackers very early on. ritz are good to start, bc there's no rough edges and they get soggy very quick once it's in their mouth. also ripe, soft fruits. like pieces of banana, or pear. oh and French fries! I gave dd Italian bread with butter (no crust) as one of her 1st table foods, and she loved gnawing at that. also pieces of cheese, and yogart. cheerios... either dry, or you can eat a bowl and give her one or two soggier ones to start, off your spoon. like I said though, I wouldn't worry and I don't think there's a need to rush it. they aren't going to eat purees forever. she'll eat table food when she's ready, just keep offering.

Re: Finger foods
my LO loves the baby rice cakes... they come flavored too.
they can hold themselves, chew or mush it (depending on teeth) and they dissolve fast like the puffs

My dd is 10 months and still prefers purées. She loves her puffs and Cheerios so we give her some of them with other bits of food mixed in. She likes string cheese so I break it up Cherrio size. Her favorite food when all else fails is apple sauce. She will eventually not want purées but I'm not rushing it.

Re: Finger foods
I started with puffs, cheerios, banana & avocado.
IMO, the pureed are healthier than puffs & cheerios & as soon as DS could eat with his hands, we kept it limited so that he could get most his nutrition from the fruits & veggies.
At about 1 year, he quit pureed.
