As far as I know, no. You can have only one Godparent, but if there are two, one must be male and the other must be female.
ETA: I think it's a rule dictated by the Diocese, but not positive.

Re: Two godmothers,no godfather-- Catholic church?
For the church you only need to have 1 practicing Catholic God parent....if you want to choose 2 God mothers, you can but for the purpose of the ceremony in the church, only 1 would be considered the God mother bc you technically only need to have 1 God parent. However, call and ask a few parishes bc they seem to differ on God parent issues.

Yes I am the god mother to my sister's child and my other sister is the god mother too...no god father. Catholic church was fine with it.

At my church you can't. You only have to have one godparent but if you have two it must be male / female.

We had to write the godparents' names ahead of time and provide a copy of their Baptismal cetificates

My parish will not allow it. They also require that both godparents be practicing Christians they do not have to be catholic. Each godparent must also get a sponsor letter from their parish. The pastor has the final say on what is acceptable in the individual parish.

You usually have to provide the names and religion of the godparents when you arrange the baptism.

Two godmothers,no godfather-- Catholic church?
Well with my son I had a godfather and godmother, they never asked for proof they were Catholic and it was optional for them to come to the class (they did come) . I guess I will have to call to ask...if they wont allow it I suppose I could find a parish that will although I have received every sacrament at my parish, my DS was baptized there...so that would be weird...
Thanks for the info girls~!

Two godmothers,no godfather-- Catholic church?
So I called my parish and the lady in the rectory said no to two godmothers.
Two other neighborhood parishes said YES one godparents name is officially recorded but two godmothers can stand at the altar with the baby.
I plan to speak with the nun who runs the program at my parish and see if they will work with us if not then we will do it at the neighboring parish.
Thanks for the help ladies!

For the parishes that said yes...There will be one godmother and the other person is a witness. This is how the church will see it. What you call people in your family will not matter to the church.
You have to phrase the question the right way when you call back to yours.
Ask if you can have a godmother and a female witness.

Yes, thank you, that is what I will say when I speak to the nun
