4 month old WILL NOT nap
she has never been a good napper but over the past month I could at least get one good nap out of her, but lately she will not nap and is up the entire day. I try to put her down when she rubs her eyes, belly full and she just wont have it. Anyone else have a child like this??? I am about to lose it

Re: 4 month old WILL NOT nap
My guess is if you are waiting for her to rub her eyes to put her down for a nap, you let her stay up too long ànd now she's over tired. I would get her to sleep way before she starts rubbing her eyes. Don't let her stay wake more than an hour and a half to two hours. Also try white noise/music, swaddling, swinging/bouncing, sucking...

Try to look for early signs of being tired. Maybe she's over tired and then it's hard to get to sleep? I used to get DS down for a nap about 2-3 hours after he woke.; and then probably another nap 2 -3 hours after that.

Re: 4 month old WILL NOT nap
Do you have a swing or anything that moves? My DS is also 4 months and naps almost exclusively in the swing. I agree with trying to put her down no more than 2 hours after waking. Good luck!

Re: 4 month old WILL NOT nap
My DD started doing this around 4 months as well. My ped said that this is ok because sleeping less during the day equals more sleeping at night. He said that they are becoming more aware of their surroundings and are not as interested in napping. It could be a phase too.

Re: 4 month old WILL NOT nap
We use the swing, white noise, etc. I was swaddling but she started to break out of it. My older DD was always a great napper so this is new territory for me. She is sleeping thru the night from 8-7 so maybe thats it too although my older DD alway gave me good long naps even after she started to STTN. Im praying its a phase

Yes, agree with the others, swing swing swing, worked for DS and now at 10m he is the best napper ever... started with the rock n play then did naps in swing and then transitioned to crib. Obsessed with the website troublesometots.com for sleep advice.

Re: 4 month old WILL NOT nap
The thing is that I do try to put her in the swing about 2 1/2 hours after she gets up but either she wont fall asleep or she will only fall asleep for 20 minutes. Right now she is sleeping in our room and her swing is in our room too (we are in a 2 bedroom apt so she is not sharing yet with my older DD) and the shades in my room still let in a lot of light, maybe thats it?

Re: 4 month old WILL NOT nap
The light could be a factor. You also might have to try getting her to fall asleep in a different way other then putting her in the swing. I would aggressively try to get her to sleep at the 1 1/2 to 2 hour mark. Waiting to try and put her to sleep at the 2 1/2 hour mark is too late. Have you tried holding her in a football hold and walking her around with a bouncey gait, listening to music? Does she take a pacifier?
