If I pump...
what accessories do I need besides the pump itself?
are bags better than bottles? I'm at a loss
I'm looking to get a Medela through insurance if that helps.

If I pump...
I could be wrong but I believe the bags are used to freeze the milk if you want a supply whereas the bottles would be more for immediate use. I think? LOL

Re: If I pump...
You'll need a few bottles to pump into, but the bags are great for storage and freezing. Also a hands-free pumping bra is helpful so you can still use your hands instead of having to hold the cups. Nursing pads to help with leakage, and definitely Lansinoh cream. It's also helpful to have a few extra pump kits (suction cups and flanges) so that you'll always have a clean set on hand.

Bottles, a cooler bag w/ice packs, a dishwasher basket for all the tiny pump parts...or another way to wash/sterilize the parts.
I agree the bags are great for storage & freezing. They even make freezer trays for all the bags to stay organized.

this pretty much covers it i laughed at the hands free bra when i saw it online but its a lifesaver. it gets boring while pumping and to sit there holding the bottles is a pain! i would check out the suction cups before ordering more - they come in sizes and i needed to get a larger size bc my boobs were just too big
i also got the nipples that attached to the bottles so that i could feed dd the milk easily if it wasnt getting frozen

Which medela pump are you getting? I'd get a few extra of the accessory pieces but I can't tell you exactly what to get unless I know what pump you are getting. I was solely pumping for a while and it was really annoying to wash the only set I had every 3 hours and it had to be completely dry to use it again.
The bottles are good if you're using the milk in the next few days because you can just attach a nipple to it and serve to baby. Those you'll keep in the fridge until you're ready to use. The bags are good for long term freezer storage.

Re: If I pump...
ok so everything in the replacement parts package but you won't need the tubes, one set of tubes should be fine. So at least one extra set of the breastshields, connectors, valves, and membranes.
