Tv monitoring
At what age did you start censoring the shows you watch on tv? We have a tv in our playroom and it's usually one of our shows and DS plays. Lately he has started to pay more attention to what's on the tv. At what age did you stop watching your shows in front of dc? DS is two.

We have honestly never watched our shows while our boys were awake. I didn't want them exposed to tv that was too "old" for them, and I didn't want them having too much tv exposure in general.

i dont watch my shows in front of DD. If I do, it's on my computer facing me while she plays and it's sound only. Now that she is 18 months and understands so much, if the sound is inappropriate (fighting, cursing, whatever) I will probably wear headphones so she doesn't hear it. She does now want to see everything on my computer though so I think "my" shows have to come when she goes to sleep.

Around 2 I started to be a lot more careful. He's 2.5 now and we almost never watch our shows in front of him. Sometimes I do pop on the Today show in the morning though to catch the headlines and weather.

What really surprised us, is that we have to monitor our cable/broadcast news programs more than any shows that DW and I watch! News is violent and scary!

Yep this...
Doctor who isn't inherently bad...
Walking Dead is a no go.. though she walked out of her room a few times and knows what zombies are. She thinks they are slow and funny. I decided to cut it before she could understand the death part.
She has never been hidden from violence in a show.. but I won't let her watch sexual content. She hates when people kiss LOL thinks its gross. She and I sat and watched Gone with the Wind... if you really think about it, its pretty violent but such a good movie!
News tho? NO WAY. I hate it. mornings are tad better but I won't watch it. She knows the news because of my aunt. But we've kept it to the weather and traffic reports or sports.
What got my hubby was a lot of his comedy stuff isn't really age appropriate. Sure they are funny movies and stuff but the slap stick humor and physical jokes are harsh. Plus she tries to copy them which can be dangerous. So he had to cut them out.
Its a live and learn for us.
By 3 though she took OVER our TV and all we watch is Disney while she's up. Futurama and South Park if I'm lucky. We watch our shows after she's asleep.

we've watched Glee in front of my son before while he played but i dont think thats bad. other than that he walked in on my husband while he was watching family guy once & of course since its a cartoon was instantly engaged lol i yelled at him to shut it off
other than that we do have the news on in the background... usually news 12 or channel 11

My DD is 2.5 and we dont really watch our shows when she is around. I DVR a lot and watch after she goes to bed in peace and quiet. I will put on the news sometimes to see whats going on and check the weather but its only for a few mins.

We usually only watch their shows if they are around. Ill occasionally watch American idol. Dh will put some of his shows on when he is watching them but its like movies. Not SOA. Sometimes he will be watching something innocent then something else comes on and it's too much. Maybe I just hate his stupid movies. Lol.

I think by the time she was about 6 months or so, we really started to pay attention to what we were watching in front of dd. We save our shows till after she is asleep. Now when the tv is on it is usually on disney junior or sesame street. The only channels I really watch with her in the room are hgtv and food network. Dh will watch shows like american pickers and pawn stars.

My DD is 2.5 and since she was probably 6 -7 months old, I stopped watching my shows in front of her. Once she really started to notice the TV. The only thing I'll watch with her is cable news around lunch time just to catch up on what's going on quickly...like maybe for 1/2 hour. Of course if they are showing the riots in Kiev or something violent I'll change it, but I think she can listen to politics for 30 minutes.
She has never seen any reality TV or any prime time tv shows. She's very smart and observant and I don't need her repeating anything she might here on those shows. Plus, I like to watch those after she's asleep so I can enjoy them in peace! 
ETA, we were visiting my Grandma the other day, and she was watching hallmark or one of those channels, and a Feed the Children commercial came on with all the crying & starving babies...DD immediately stated asking why they were crying, why they had boo boos, where were their mommies, etc. So she definitely notices what's on the TV.

thanks - its mainly hgtv, jeapordy or sports that is on so i don't worry too much about that. But DH will put on one of his dvr'd shows here and there and I think they are inappropriate. DS doesn't sit and watch them yet- but he will look up at the tv for a few minutes. i would put on his shows but then he would be glued to the tv and not play lol!

I'll watch HGTV in front of her but that's it.
Once I started to watch True Detective and had a WTF are you thinking moment. And turned it off. LOL
I usually put on her music instead of the TV though. She's becoming slightly obsessed with Bubble Guppies and the TV so I'm trying to curb that. TOTALLY my fault.

DD is almost 3 and we only watch comedies around her - Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, etc... she for some reason loves Modern Family and enjoys pointing out every time Cam is wearing a different colored shirt. We wouldn't watch Castle around her or the news. I think we started to pay attention to the programming more sometime after 1 year
