moving advice..

We're doing things in steps, so it's taking years to do everything that we want to do. I just staying on top of your insurance, because they tried to cancel our policy because they came by when we were doing the floors and tried to say it wasn't our primary residence. We just had to provide a few months of utility bills, but it was a PITA.

Re: moving advice..

I think it's always preferable to move in AFTER things are done, but I know many people can't afford to carry a rental apartment AND a home at the same time (if that's what the situation is), or at least want to minimize overlap.

When I bought my house, we were doing things like taking down wallpaper, painting, refinishing floors, taking down paneling and sheetrocking. But we had it all done before we moved in. But I was very pregnant when we closed on the house and we moved in with a newborn, so I didn't want dust, fumes. We were fortunate that we were ok to stay in our rental for a couple of months while we had work done to the house.

But I think it depends on your tolerance for that type of thing. I would say most of my clients move in the house and work on it while there, esp. if it's cosmetic stuff.

We moved in when we refinished the floors and painted but we still needed to do bathrooms and the Kitchen. But we moved and gave ourselves time to decide what we wanted. It is a pain in the Axx to work on the house when you are in so if you can avoid it you should. We demoed our kitchen this weekend so we are back to living out of boxes and using paper plates lol. But it is all worth it to get what we want.
