Ridiculous formula feeding question
Im popping over from the pregnancy board to ask a ridiculous question lol
Is formula liquid or powder? Or both? Does it depend on the brand..
I told my mom I registered for the Dr Browns bottles etc and happened to mention that I got the formula mixer.. and she said isn't formula liquid? and then I said well I thought it could be both. But now Im thinking is it always both? Is liquid better then powder? Is the powder then mixed with water?
I have no idea what the heck Im talking about.. lol
Can someone clarify this for me? Thank you!!

It can be both. The powder does get mixed with water. I use powder and have no problem.

There's both liquid (aka "ready to feed") and powder. Ready to feed is very convenient, but also more expensive. I used it the first few weeks, bc it was just easier getting adjusted to being at home with a newborn and not having to worry about measuring/mixing. After I got a handle on things, we switched to powder. The formula pitcher was great for mixing , and making a big batch was very helpful.

Also some kids do better on the liquid than the powder and vice versa. My DS would vomit the liquid, but would not have a problem with the powder even though it was the same brand and type (Similac Sensitive).

It can be both. Just FYI that the powder is not sterile. You may not care but I didn't feel comfortable giving it a newborn. We used the RTF liquid.

My mom had no idea it came in powdered form either. She used the liquid formula for me. I used the powdered for my dd. Mixed a batch daily using filtered water in the dr browns pitcher. Very easy! I sometimes used the RTF (ready to feed) formula when out but dd didn't care for it as much.

In our moms' day and age, all formula was pre mixed. I found that the liquid is triple the price. Anyone else?
I find most people I know mix the powder with bottled or filtered water. I didn't use the water with fluoride in it. I used Gerber baby Pure. You can use Poland Spring etc.

I use the powder. Very easy to mix. I find the liquid is thicker, and also stains the clothes if DC spits up. I find that the powder does not stain.

I used rtf mostly but would use powder if I got a sample. And the pitcher was awesome! Most brands have either or.

BRU has a formula (powder) maker ..like a Kurig (sp?) Just press button & it mixes heats & depenses the smt u want.....my sis has one.fabulous

We only used RTF in the beginning b/c we had samples. And then once in a while we'd get the small bottles to bring with us places. But otherwise we used the powder. I personally found it easier to pre-measure bottles of water (which was generally Brita filtered tap water that I sometimes boiled first - though there is much debate about how useful that is) and used pre-measured powder from a formula dispenser to mix as baby wanted to eat. If I had it in the fridge already mixed, I'd have to warm it and DS was NOT (still isn't) patient.
But, DS didn't have too much trouble with gas so when I shook the bottle to mix, he didn't generally have an issue with it though some people do find the bubbles from shaking to be a problem.
