OBGYNs affiliated with Stony Brook Medical Center
Hi all
I am looking for a new OBGYN that delivers at Stony Brook. I am currently looking at University Associates and Three Village Womens. If anyone can offer some advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I go to Stonybrook Midwives (a part of University Associates). I like all of the midwives I've seen...I have never seen one of the OB/GYns so no info on them. I go to the Bohemia office. It's updated, clean, and barely a wait to be seen.
Another office that gets great reviews is Stonybrook GYN/OB. I almost went to this office, had an appt. scheduled with Dr. Welischar, but then decided to go to the Midwives so I cancelled by appt. there.

I go to University Associates in Setauket but I see the high risk doctors there. It is a huge practice between the midwives, regular ob/gyn's, and high risk doctors. The women at the front desk aren't the greatest but I do like most of the doctors I've seen there.

Ive been with this practice since 2004; Dr O'keefe has delivered both my other children via C-section and will delivery this baby as well!
Im very happy there!!! Not crazy about Lochner and never met Funt- but LOVE the other Dr's as well as Nurse Fish and Nurse Morgan!

I go here too. Dr. Porte delivered my youngest. I went to another practice for years and switched during my last pregnancy to deliver at Stony Brook. I like all the doctors and nurses. There are 5 doctors and two nurses. One of the doctors you will never see. Pretty sure he doesn't deliver babies anymore. That is Dr. Funt. Never had a problem with front desk or any other staff. They see you pretty quickly. Only had to wait awhile a few times but that's how all offices are. I go to the Stony Brook office but they have others in Bohemia and Rocky point.
Loved delivering at Stony Brook. What a difference from where I delivered my oldest. Rooms where so nice and private. Staff was good and so was the food actually.
The only complaint about the office is the examining rooms. A bit dated. My old office was so nice and new. So I came here a little spoiled. They just redid the bathrooms and I overheard one of the doctors talking to someone about redoing the office. At least that's what is sounded like. It's very clean though. They don't do blood work in the office but there is a sunrise lab in the same building. They have always been quick. I know the other two offices don't do blood work in office as well. They do all Sonos in the office including 12 week one. They are also associated with Three Village. So if you go either practice there is a chance you will get a doctor from the other practice to deliver you. I think they do this at a lot of places now. My old practice was like this too.
My friend started going to SB Associates last pregnancy. She was using the midwives and was not happy. She didn't like the front desk girls or the waiting room. And wasn't crazy about the midwives she met. She didn't see an OB there. She switched over the Three Village and was very happy. A lot of people love the midwives so you may like them as well.

Stonybrook OB/GYN is my practice too. I primarily saw Dr. Welischar during my preg with DD and she was great. Also saw Dr. Porte a few times. I liked him, but found that I always had a much longer wait when my appointments were with him. The office staff was great too, I was very happy with my experience there.
Dr. Funt does not deliver anymore, as a PP mentioned. I was glad actually, since he delivered me and I just thought it would be a little weird :) My Mom has been a patient of his for well over 35 years!

I used University Associates with my first two kids. I didn't like them at all. The doctors that you wanted appointments with were impossible to get and the front desk ladies were not nice. I stuck it out because I loved my doctor but she left right before I became pregnant with my third.
I switched to Stony Brook OBGYN and LOVED them. They were always nice and all the doctors were amazing. I saw Dr. Lochner, Welischar and OKeefe the most. Dr. Welischar performed my c/s. My pregnancy was difficult in the end and I had appointments with sonos twice a week. from 32 weeks on. They were always accommodating with my schedule (I'm a teacher in Queens). I missed them once I had the baby because I spent so much time there!

LOVE this practice.  Dr. Porte delivered my DD. I love them all but Porte is by far my favorite. Yes, he has more of a wait than the others but IMO it's worth it. He sits with you until you are 100% comfortable with everything and all your questions are answered.
