Materniti21 test question
Did anyone have this test done? I had it done at 10 weeks because I am 35 and it was offered to me. It came back negative which I was thrilled about. My dr told me he did not recommend doing the amnio because this test is very accurate. Now he is telling me that it's only a screening test and that there is still a risk of down syndrome and the other chromosome disorders as well. Does anyone have any info about this? I know it's not 100% accurate but I thought it was pretty close. TIA.

Re: Materniti21 test question
My understanding is that it is 99%+ accurate but not 100%. Only CVS and amnio are 100%
I honestly wouldnt do the CVS or amnio unless there were markers on the sono or unless you wanted to test for other chromosomal abnormalities beyond the 3 tested in the maternity 21

I'm 30 weeks so my dr said it's too late for the amnio (if I wanted to terminate-not saying I would). All of my sonos have been good except the most recent they said baby has enlarged bowel which made me nervous....but they are just going to watch it. That was the only thing they have said so far that was "not great".

Re: Materniti21 test question
if the other tests came back fine I also wouldn't worry or do any other testing either.
are they saying the bowel is a concern?
FYI in NYS you can't terminate after 24 weeks

They said it's slightly enlarged and it could be a marker for downs but I haven't had any other markers. They also said she might need surgery when she is born if it gets obstructed. But then my other dr (I go to a high risk and a reg obgyn) said that she isn't concerned and will just watch to make sure it doesn't get bigger.

yup this is pretty much the case. as long as your results come back good & your doctor isnt concerned with sonos, i wouldnt worry

Materniti21 test question
The test is just a screening test like your OB said. It is a newer test for trisomy 13, 18 and 21 but like the triple screen (first trimester screen) it is not diagnostic and there is an error rate although it is very low. Only CVS and amino are diagnostic and in some cases woman have CVS early in pregnancy but have amino later to look for certain genetic variants- many times on this board you will see people post that they had the Maternit21 test and it is negative but it is not a plus minus test- the results are reported as odds and most OB and genetic counselor a will not recommend diagnostic testing unless the odds of a genetic disease are higher than the odds of a miscarriage due to performing the diagnostic test.

Materniti21 test question
I had this done a bit later and the numbers came back favorably..usually the counselor will make a recommendation based on results and I did not have amnio..what I learned had me satisfied enough, along with the other screenings (12 and 16 week as well as 20 week growth sono along with this test)

Re: Materniti21 test question
Aside from not being 100%, the test is limited. It does not test for everything an amnio tests for.
