HELP!!!!! (DaniRella your post inspired me to post this)
DS was never the BEST sleeper but he wasn't terrible. Once he was able to move around better in the crib by himself he slept better but still not through the night. About a month and a half ago he stopped his middle of the night feeding. I would just go in the room, give him his binky and turn the mobile on. BAM he'd be out. I could do it in my sleep.
DH has been on furlough for 2 weeks and is noticing the DS has been more tired at night so we decided to move up his bedtime from 8PM to 7:30PM (didn't want to do a drastic change). Before furlough DS would take 1.5-2 hour naps.
This past week (starting this past weekend) he is progressively getting to be a poor napper and poor sleeper. I want to cry I am so tired! I am going on a cruise next week with my family and have been trying to get DS to sleep better for DH while I'm away.
We put him in the crib for a nap because he's been rubbing his eyes and you can tell he's tired. He plays and moves around in the crib. DH said yesterday it took him 1.5 hours before he fell asleep. He then slept for almost 2 hours which is GREAT. Second nap, he fell asleep in a shorter about of time but woke up in 30 minutes and was clearly still EXHAUSTED but wouldn't go back to sleep. He went down at 7:30PM for bedtime and he woke up at 1030, 1130, 230, 430, and 5. He didn't just wake up and take his binkie, he WOKE UP! I know I shouldn't have but the past couple of times around 5AM he's been hungry so I would give him 4 oz of bottle to just tie him until breakfast. Last night he wanted a bottle at 230AM instead. He eats 4 meals a day (4 bottles, 2 oatmeals, 1 fruit, and 1 veggies/meat). Last night I had to rock him back to sleep and he was just not having it! So each time he woke up he was up for a half hour which means I was up for 45 minutes.
What happened to making sleeping progress? Should I try to increase his food throughout the day? What is his problem at night? I can't keep doing this! He is so tired at night because his naps aren't so great. I suffer from post partum and I think I might totally lose my mind soon! This trip can't come soon enough!
He's 8 months old on March 1st.

Re: HELP!!!!! (DaniRella your post inspired me to post this)
I'd up him to 3 meals a day and see how he does. How much formula is he taking in those 4 bottles?
Also, it could be teething. It's typical to walk up a lot when babies are teething. Do you see signs of that? Did you try any Tylenol to see if he's in pain? Or maybe it's a growth spurt, and will pass, but he needs more food to get through it.
Also, it's pretty typical to get 1 long nap and 1 short nap, so I wouldn't worry so much about the 2nd nap being shorter. Babies sleep patterns change frequently so you just have to figure out what's bother the baby and fix it. If he's taking a bottle in the middle of the night, my guess is he needs more calories during the day.

HELP!!!!! (DaniRella your post inspired me to post this)
You can never count on sleep. Even when they are good sleepers they will have something that will mess it up. The good news is that it is temporary. They usually work it out and will go back to sleeping.
I am not a fan of putting them down when they rub their eyes. If I did that to my son he would always be in his crib. He always looks a little sleepy but he never really is enough to nap.
And by not putting him in the crib when he is first sleepy....the worst that is going to happen is he will fall asleep while playing. Its not the end of the world.

You mean go down to 3 meals a day? He gets 4 meals on top of 4 bottles. He gets 7 oz in the bottle, there is no more room to put more in the bottles so that's out. I would have to give more food. Like increasing his oatmeal that he gets twice a day would be an option.
I thought maybe teething but we are doing what we did when his first 2 came in and it's not working. He's not really drooling. He puts everything in his mouth but he's been doing that since he was born. And usually when he is teething the paci works and it was just not cutting it last night.
The problem is he is waking up and still tired which means he's cranky until bedtime. Then he will only play with one of us holding him. That's not going to work for us.

Re: HELP!!!!! (DaniRella your post inspired me to post this)
I would up his food. Make a rounded meal (combo of protein/carbs/fruit or veggie) for him three meals a day.
If it's teeth, I would give him a dose of Tylenol before bed. My DD just had a week of getting up all the time and holding her mouth slack. I gave her a dose 1/2 hour before bedtime and it helps. She only needed it two nights before a tooth popped out. It'll be a matter of time before we get another one.
It could also be a wonder week - he's close to gaining new abilities and it messes them up. In that case, it's just a phase that he will get through. Try the wonder week app if you have an iPhone. It'll help anticipate these weeks.
I'm a firm believer in sleep begets sleep. When we have a bad night, it turns into bad naps, and more bad nights. Try putting him down just a little earlier for naps and bedtimes. Try to catch him before he's overtired.
So hopefully one of these helps! Good luck!

Alli, I told DH to start putting him in the crib the same time every day which is usually when he gets tired. Trying to get him on a schedule. He would rather play then sleep but then he's too tired for either of us to deal with him.
I'm just so lost on what to do. He was doing so amazing and doing so much better then when he was younger and now he's back to his old ways

I can;t help with schedules because I never believed in them. Just like adults are not on a hard schedule I don't believe babies need to be.
DS was a horrible infant but that was due to colic. He has turned into a great sleeper (90% of the time). We let himself dictate his schedule. So he just sleeps when he is tired and yes it leads to plenty of funny pictures but he is happy that way and we don't have the fights for sleep.
DS put himself on a loose schedule very early on. He generally went to bed between 8-9 and napped when he was young when he needed it. not at 2 he usually takes 1 nap mid day but he picks when and if it is out then he will nap on the go.
I know this isn't for every one but maybe try not to be so dead set on a schedule. He will probably work it out on his own.

We have been having him pick his naps and it's not working thats why I think I need to start a schedule. We put him down when he's tired. He won't just fall asleep anywhere except for the car and I REFUSE to have to put him in the car to nap every time he needs sleep. that's why I'm at a lose. we've tried both way and neither are working.

Re: HELP!!!!! (DaniRella your post inspired me to post this)
I would actually start putting him down earlier. Around that age, my boys would wake around 7:30. Nap around 10:30. Lunch. Play. Nap around 1:30. Dinner at 6, bed at 6:45-7. I think he is overtired. Rubbing his eyes probably means hes already overtired and its hard for them to wind down.

Sorry, I read it quickly and thought that he was getting 2 meals a day. Eventually he should be on 3 meals and 2 snacks. It's possible that the baby food just isn't cutting it. Have you tried any foods yet, like yogurt melts, puffs, cheerios? If he's almost 8 months, it's probably time to start adding in more food foods, not jars.

I give him puffs, cheerios, and mum mums after and before each meal. Do you think I should be giving them inbetween meals more so he's full more? He LOVES yogurt but we have to stop giving it to him. Turns out he has a dairy allergy and was getting EXPLOSIVE poops when he would have them :(
