Another flying with car seat question!
Can anyone recommend a decent, very inexpensive, lightweight car seat to travel with? Won't be using on plane... Just need it for rental car. TIA!

Another flying with car seat question!
I bought a safety first guide 65, 78 dollars at walmrt. It will last a little longer than the scenera, especially rearfacing, this is important to me because my son is a giant
I also reccomend bringing it on the plane if at all possible, on our last flight there were empty seats and it was so so much easier to have him strapped in and sleeping then wiggling like a crazy man in my lap.

Another flying with car seat question!
Although it is allowed manufacturers don't recommend checking your carsseats (either gate or baggage) because of how they may be handled. It gives the seat an unknown history and the seat could potentially have damage that you may not be able to see.
Personally I would bring it to the gate and see if they are nice enough to accommodate you. If it is absolutely not possible for you to bring the seatoonboard I would gate check it.

My dd will be flying as a lap child. Do I still bring the car seat or would they make me pay extra for empty seat? Gonna fly southwest out of MacArthur if that makes a difference.

I will def see if I can take it on. If not, no harm in gate checking. Not too concerned about damage though. It would only be used for this trip and in the rare instance my dh takes her in his car.

I flew southwest also. It's actually easier on them because there are no assigned seats. I carried the seat to the gate and asked the gate agent if there were any extra seats, which there were. So I could use one for free. If there were no empty seats they will gate check the seat for free.
If your not taking it on board, at least take it to the gate and gate check it. It's slightly more work and a little annoying, but it makes it far less likely that your seat could get lost and not be there when you land.
